Food Services Aide (Part-Time)
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for others as well as working with and supervising volunteers and staff in the planning, preparation, service, and clean-up of nutritious meals. This will keep our clients in good physical health in order that they may progress, transition, and seek their highest potential.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prioritize, organize, and delegate tasks to volunteers;
- Plan, prepare, and serve meals in a timely manner;
- Ensure that proper sanitation, safety, and food regulations are followed;
- Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen;
- Receive donations of food items;
- Maintain a zero-waste kitchen, minimizing waste as much as possible and using donations to their fullest potential;
- Ensure kitchen staff and volunteers are following the City of Winnipeg health standards for meal preparation, kitchen cleanliness, and safety while providing nutritious meals in a timely manner to the community;
- Exemplify Siloam’s core values in all day-to-day activities;
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Safe Food Handling Certificate;
- 1-year+ experience in a commercial kitchen environment;
- Volunteer management experience is highly suggested;

- Safe Food Handling techniques;
- Basic cooking techniques;
- Cleaning procedures for utensils and equipment;
- Ability to use Microsoft Outlook;
- Be able to identify and cook with a variety of ingredients;

RELATIONSHIP
- Works closely with Drop-In Staff, Volunteers, and Community Members from various departments of Siloam Mission.
WORKING CONDITION
- Ability to stand for long periods of time;
- Working with food allergens;
- Working at least 16hours a week
- Ability to lift and carry weight up to 50 lbs.;
- Ability to work in a wide variety of temperature ranges;
- Will need to clean (sweep, mop, disinfect, etc.) work areas as needed;
- Ability to work with cleaning chemicals;
- Hazardous conditions could potentially include unpredictable or risky behaviours from community members;
WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY
The incumbent contributes to making the organization safe for clients and staff and recognizes the importance of reporting unsafe situations and participating in follow-up reviews as a learning opportunity.
- Provides a safe environment by ensuring adherence to Workplace Safety and Health
- Regulations and Policies, Infection Control Guidelines, WHMIS, and Safe Work Procedures. Immediately investigates and recommends corrective action on any unsafe acts, work conditions, incidents, near misses, injuries, or illnesses.
- Demonstrates understanding of role and responsibilities in fire prevention and disaster preparedness and participates in safety and health training programs including the facility’s Fire, Disaster, and Evacuation Plan.
- Supports an environment that avoids, prevents, and corrects all activities or actions which may result in an adverse outcome in the delivery of services. Community Member safety is a standing item for all individual and departmental meetings.
