Job Summary:

The Float Direct Support Professional (DSP) at Ability Matters, LLC provides flexible, on-demand support by covering open shifts and call-offs across multiple residential homes. This casual position requires a minimum commitment of 16 hours per month and plays a vital role in maintaining consistent, high-quality care for individuals with developmental disabilities. The Float DSP supports individuals with activities of daily living, community inclusion, and goal attainment in accordance with their Individual Service Plans (ISPs).

Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Deliver person-centered direct care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities.

  • Assist with daily living activities including personal hygiene, bathing, dressing, meal preparation, feeding, medication administration, and mobility.

  • Accompany individuals into the community for appointments, outings, and recreational activities.

  • Respond to last-minute calls to fill open shifts, including evenings, weekends, overnights, and holidays as needed.

  • Follow and implement each individual’s ISP, behavior support plan, and medical protocols.

  • Complete all required documentation accurately and promptly (e.g., progress notes, incident reports, medication records).

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment.

  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, families, and guardians.

  • Attend required training, supervision meetings, and in-service events.

  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, licensing regulations, and state/federal guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Previous experience in direct care and community involvement is a plus.

  • A demonstrated passion for promoting inclusion and empowerment.

  • Excellent communication skills for fostering meaningful community connections.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptable mindset.

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including students, families, staff, and external partners.


Physical Requirements:

Duties performed typically in residential and community settings. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, equipment and/or material may be required. Other physical activities may be required. 

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking within the community and other school activities. 

  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at a time.

  • Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties.

  • Must be able to kneel, sit, stand, crawl, push, and pull to assist and teach students throughout the day.

Environmental Conditions: 

(a) Some air-conditioned buildings. (b) exposure to weather extremes. (c) Ability to tolerate varying noise levels. (d) Exposure to anti-social behavior. (e) Exposure to bodily fluids (f) Ability to tolerate stressful situations.
