Fleet Manager / Lead Mechanic
ND Landscape Services is seeking an experienced Fleet Manager / Lead Mechanic to take ownership of our growing fleet of trucks, trailers, and landscape equipment. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for keeping our fleet safe, reliable, and ready to support landscape construction, maintenance, and snow operations year-round.
This position is ideal for a seasoned mechanic who enjoys turning wrenches and leading people, systems, and standards.
Position Overview
The Fleet Manager/Lead Mechanic is responsible for managing a fleet of approximately 60 vehicles and pieces of equipment, ensuring everything is tracked, maintained, repaired, compliant, and ready to perform. You will coordinate vendors, manage inventory, and make informed decisions around repairs, replacements, and purchases.
Hands-On Mechanical Work
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain trucks, trailers, and landscape equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance to reduce downtime and extend equipment life
- Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, diesel, and gas engine issues
- Support emergency repairs during peak season and snow events as needed
Fleet & Shop Management
- Oversee the day-to-day condition and readiness of the company fleet
- Build and manage preventative maintenance schedules
- Track repairs, parts, warranties, inspections, and service intervals
- Maintain shop organization, cleanliness, and safety standards
- Coordinate outside vendors when specialized repairs are required
Leadership & Accountability
- Lead and manage any additional mechanics or shop staff
- Set repair priorities based on operational needs
- Establish consistent standards for repairs, inspections, and documentation
- Work closely with management to ensure equipment availability
- Provide recommendations for equipment replacement and capital planning
- Budgeting and Management of budget
