Fitness Consultant (Part-Time)

Role: 
As a Fitness Consultant, you are responsible for creating a safe, engaging and satisfying customer experience for users of Vivo.  You will create and connect with our customers, community and employees in ways that are impactful in driving and advancing our cause.  You will participate in re-imagining and evolving all aspects of the customer fitness baselines to bring our Gen H movement to life.  You'll engage with passion and be accountable to the team to deliver strong results and impact. 

Hours:  15 - 30 hours a week 

Reports to:  Fitness & Training Manager 

Responsibilities: 
  • Assist in building strong relationships and co-create with our customers, partners, and community to determine their needs and what they value. 
  • Conduct facility tours and/or orientations to the Fitness Centre and Group Fitness classes to potential and first-time customers, Youths, and Adults. 
  • Greet all members and users to provide education on facility rules.  
  • Prepare and deliver appropriate presentations on products and services to members. Provide facility tours and be knowledgeable about all experience opportunities available at Vivo.  
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve improved retention of our members.  
  • Review the My Wellness drop-in schedules for the zones in the fitness center and gymnasiums are accurate. Report any inconsistencies. 
  • Take the initiative to go above and beyond to make the customer feel welcomed within our facility.  
  • Provide personalized and professional customer service in person and on the phone. 
  • Respond to general customer inquiries and feedback about the facilities. 
  • Maintain all the areas of the fitness facilities, including: 
  • Being aware of any fitness classes taking place during your shift and making sure the space is ready for our members and the instructor. 
  • Be familiar with the Fitness Centre's four zones and the cleaning requirements, set-up, and proper etiquette. 
  • Follow all disinfection protocols for the Fitness Centre. 
  • General maintenance of equipment. 
  • Upkeep and tidiness of the Fitness Centre and Dryland areas. 
  • Maintain safety standards as necessary. 
  • Handle immediate first aid needs. 
  • Educate customers and enforce protocols and rules. 
  • Provide spotting support to customers.  
  • Provide safety & security for indoor and outdoor areas of Vivo.  
  • Act as the first responder for accidents and incidents.  
  • Complete injury, occurrence, and witness statement report as required.  
  • Assist the Duty Manager as required with situations.  
  • Responsible for set-up, take-down, and store equipment for public use, programs, and facility rentals.  
  • Provide relief to other teams as required.  
  • Organize and clean equipment storage areas.  
  • Compile statistics of the facility as required.  
  • Support on-site deliveries and ensure they are taken to the proper location. 
  • Perform day-to-day cash transactions
  • Support Guest Services staff to and from the cash room to the desk. 
  • Support Guest Services with collecting locker coins. 
  • Educate customers regarding theft prevention. 
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times. 
  • Attend at least four in-services per year.

Qualifications: 
  • High-energy individual with a positive attitude who thrives in a competitive and dynamic environment and is working toward, or has completed, a post-secondary education in Kinesiology or a related degree or diploma.  
  • Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification (AFLCA) or canfitpro (PTS) or equivalent is recommended.  
  • 2+ years' experience in the fitness field.
  • Past experience in a customer relations environment.
  • Knowledge of fitness and ability to instruct and educate in a respectful manner.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, problem solving, and ability to deal with conflict in a diplomatic manner will help ensure your success.  
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and AVOCADO registration software.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs and assist in moving heavy sports equipment.
  • Current Intermediate First Aid (Formerly known as Standard First Aid) and CPR-C/AED certifications.
  • A valid police information check for the Vulnerable Sector within the past 2 months.
