Contract length is subject to change based on the demands of the season.  Let us know your availability between May 1 – Sept 30!

Drive west along one of the most scenic highways in Canada through the spectacular mountainous landscape of Strathcona Park and the village of Gold River towards Tahsis. Approximately 2 hours by road from Campbell River on Vancouver Island is Moutcha Bay Resort, on the waters of Nootka Sound.

Requirements for a Fishing and Adventures Guide:

 

You have excellent customer service skills.

You have a minimum of 2 years of professional guided fishing experience.

You are familiar with west coast saltwater fishing (preferably within the Nootka Sound region). 

You have experience with small vessel operations including close quarter handing, anchoring, minor vessel maintenance and cleaning. 

You have your Small Vessel Operator Proficiency certification.

You have your Marine Emergency Duties or Small Domestic Vessel Basic Safety certification. 

You have your Restricted Radio Operations Certificate – Marine with DSC

You have your current Marine Basic First Aid or equivalent. 

You have or will get a current a Tidal Waters Sportfishing License with Salmon Conservation Stamp.

You have a valid class 5 driver license and clean abstract. 

 

Duties of a Fishing and Adventures Guide:

 

Warmly welcome and assist guests with equipment, luggage, and gear on and off vessels in a safe manner. 

Conduct a Transport Canada approved passenger safety orientation prior to each trip.

Safely transport guests to and from fishing grounds for up to 10 hours of fishing per day.

Adhere to DFO regulations and requirements.

Complete vessel usage and fuel logs

Communicate to the entire Saltwater Fishing Guide team information about your location, catch(es), impressions of weather conditions, tides, currents, and fishing experience before, during, and after every trip.

Educate guests on various fishing theories and techniques including jigging, trolling, and anchored fishing, and demonstrate those techniques when requested or appropriate.

Ensure that caught and bled fish are accurately marked for individual guest tracking, and stored in cool, clean fish wells during trips in order to maintain a high quality of meat.

Clean guest’s fish (gut and gill), and ensure that any fish processing forms are completed per guest specifications.

Transport fish to fish processing department.

Travel between resorts as needed and stay overnight at Newton Cove Resort when required.
