Assurance Supervisor

Baton Rouge, LA Full-time

The Assurance Supervisor performs most work assigned with a minimum of assistance. Often instructs staff on work to be performed, reviews the work done, and directs necessary revisions. Is able to make decisions on all but the most unusual accounting and auditing matters. Is able to set up time budgets on jobs assigned and can lead staff to employ methods that will accomplish objectives timely. Displays professional conduct, showing confidence and ease in the presence of staff and client representatives. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs diversified accounting and auditing assignments under the direction of a Manager, Sr. Manager, and/or Partner.
  • Demonstrates competency in technical skills, work quality, and application of professional and firm standards.
  • Meets time constraints and client deadlines.
  • Participates in planning and scheduling client engagements.
  • Becomes proficient at preparing financial statements using the firm's software programs and prepares other reports, projects, and duties as may be assigned.
  • Knows and understands the reason behind the firm's policies and procedures and possesses technical knowledge sufficient to supervise staff and review workpapers.
  • Begins to develop a command of GAAP, other comprehensive basis of accounting, unique or specialized accounting principles, and financial statement presentations.
  • Able to evaluate internal controls, prepare risk assessments, and generate engagement programs.
  • Obtains a thorough understanding of generally accepted auditing standards and common audit procedures and techniques.
  • Effectively communicates with client to receive information necessary to complete the engagement with a minimum of disruption to client.
  • Develops expertise within agreed upon industry niches.
  • Becomes involved in state/local professional organizations, serves on state/local committees, and accepts volunteer positions in local community organizations.
  • Becomes a leader and resource in the firm by helping with internal firm matters not limited to process improvements, recruiting, marketing, and other administrative functions as necessary.

Supervisory Responsibilities:                                       
This job has some supervisory responsibilities including the training, monitoring, and mentoring of other staff and interns while on engagements and within the office.

Education and/or Experience:                                        
Bachelor's degree or Master’s degree from a four-year college or university; with 150 credit hours CPA requirement met; and less than one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Completes annual continuing professional education requirements.

Computer Skills:               
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in use of computers and have knowledge of computer accounting software programs used by the firm.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Either holds a current and valid CPA license, or is working toward obtaining the license by taking and passing the CPA exam. If licensed, should be a member in good standing with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants, and the State Board of Certified Public Accountants of Louisiana.

Other Qualifications:                                               
Must be prepared to spend majority of time at client's office conducting audit field work, including occasional out of town travel.
