Summary of Duties:

Under the direction of the Director of Child & Family Services, the Family Enhancement Worker is a member of a multi-disciplinary team that provides support services to Lil’wat families, primarily on-reserve. This position focuses on delivering educational programs and services to families, advocating for and supporting those involved with child protection services, and representing Lil’wat Nation in related court matters. All services emphasize keeping children safely with their parents.

Key Deliverables and Expectations:

  • Provide advocacy and support for families involved with child protection services on and off reserve.
  • Attend provincial court, mediations, and family group conferences as a designated Lil’wat Nation representative.
  • Provide individual and group prevention and skill enhancement services.
  • Provide intensive family preservation and reunification services designed to strengthen and preserve families using flexible service methods that are determined by the family’s strengths and needs.
  • Provide transportation of clients as necessary 
  • Establish and maintain appropriate professional files which provide all necessary documentation regarding the family.
  • Maintain weekly updates with the supervisor regarding all assigned families.
  • Maintain monthly records of work completed and, in the manner, assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.
Experience and Attributes:

  • Education and previous relevant work experience with First Nations people in related services.
  • Minimum of two years’ work experience is preferred.
  • Flexible schedule to support families in the evenings and on weekends as needed.
  • Previous experience in the Lil’wat community is an asset.
  • Experience facilitating group education programs.
  • Knowledge of effective and evidence-based parenting approaches.
  • Knowledge of financial management, household routines, and stress management.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively with a team, establishing good working relationships with clients and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Motivated self-starter with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Highly professional in all aspects of business, presentation, and interaction with all stakeholders, clients, and Members.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License, a clean Driver’s Abstract, and a reliable vehicle is an asset.
  • Must be able to provide a clear Criminal Record Check, including the vulnerable sector.
