About the Opportunity

The mission of American Baptist College (ABC), a historically Black College with a liberal arts emphasis, is to educate, graduate, and prepare diverse students for Christian leadership, service, and social justice in the world.  The teaching philosophy at American Baptist College will help students develop a rigorous spirit of curiosity that connects theory to praxis, promotes community and inclusion as well as cultivates habits of life-long learning through continuous self-reflection and self-evaluation. To accomplish these aims we will teach our students to grow ethically and spiritually by expanding their vision to include the principles of social justice, equity, advocacy, and leadership to build their analytical and interpretative skills in both faith communities and the broader society. The Academic and Student Affairs division of American Baptist College invites applications for a non-tenure track, full-time faculty (open rank) as the Faculty Chair for Entrepreneurial Leadership Studies. This is a full-time position beginning August 15, 2024. Faculty rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. 

 

Responsibilities

As Faculty Chair of the Entrepreneurial Leadership Program, you play a significant role in the

college’s mission of developing students to be transforming agents in the broader society.  Moreover, you lead the way in helping the College meet its academic mission of preparing entrepreneurial leadership studies students to be ethical and effective problem-solvers who lead by example within the communities they serve by providing the opportunity to explore the elements of entrepreneurial leadership and to develop an entrepreneurial mindset within a Christian ministry framework. This role combines academic expertise in entrepreneurship and leadership with administrative responsibilities to provide visionary leadership, foster collaboration, and drive innovation within the program.  Therefore, duties include but are not limited to the following: 

 

Reports to the Dean of Academics.

Provides vision and leadership for developing and accomplishing departmental goals.

Collaborates with the Dean of Academics to implement digital learning and digital tools for entrepreneurship ensuring alignment with industry trends and emerging entrepreneurial practices.

Ensures that the entrepreneurial leadership program aligns with the college’s mission and is scaled to the level of academic rigor commensurate with professional and accreditation standards for undergraduate education, generally and best and emerging practices in the field of entrepreneurship specifically.

Guides and develops the entrepreneurial leadership program as liberal arts expansion of the ABC curriculum and in alignment with the ABC mission and teaching philosophy of the College.

Performs entrepreneurial leadership program reviews which include establishing program goals, objectives, and outcomes and establishing appropriate course level progression.

Works in collaboration with Dean of Academics to develop student learning outcomes for entrepreneurial leadership students.

Collaborates with the Curriculum and Pedagogy Specialist to develop curricular goals and to explore and improve faculty proficiency with effective pedagogical tools for entrepreneurial leadership. 

Supports faculty scholarship production and professional development.

Collaborates with the Dean of Academics and the Director of Student Success to monitor and maintain student persistence and retention.

Communicates needs, opportunities, and risks regarding entrepreneurial leadership to the Associate Dean of Academics.

Assists with the development of departmental grants.

Recruits entrepreneurial leadership adjunct faculty as needed to obtain the program objectives and its students’ success.

Teaches one section in the Entrepreneurial Leadership Department per academic year.

Serves as the Advisor to students in the Entrepreneurial Leadership major.

 

Qualifications

 Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship or Ph.D. in Business Management with emphasis in Entrepreneurship at the level of Associate Professor preferred.  Will consider a DBA or MBA with 10 years’ experience.

 Minimum of three years relevant academic administration experience at the department chair or academic program level.

Demonstrated knowledge of program assessment, organizational management, and/or

accreditation program procedures.

Record of excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship, with expertise and a deep

understanding of current trends and practices in entrepreneurship and leadership. 

A passion for entrepreneurship, innovation, and leadership with a commitment to promoting an

entrepreneurial mindset among students and the campus community.

 

Skills

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

Ability to synthesize materials and ideas for good decision-making and critical judgement.

Creativity and ability to move from ideas to development to implementation of a plan.

Experience and ability in analyzing student data.

Experience with technology and digital learning savvy.
