Objective:

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating a pedestal-mounted hydraulic E-Crane and an articulating wheel loader used for unloading bulk materials at the Cleco Power Plant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
  • Operate crane controls, including joysticks, foot pedals, and interface panels - to lift, move and position bulk materials from barges to the conveyor with precision and safety.
  • Inspect and adjust crane mechanisms or lifting accessories to prevent malfunctions or damage.
  • Inspect cables or grappling devices for wear and install or replace cables, as needed.
  • Clean, lubricate, and maintain mechanisms such as cables, pulleys, or grappling devices, making repairs, as necessary.
  • Capability to ascend and descend on/off of the barge on vertical fixed ladder, and ascend and descend in/out of the barge utilizing rope ladder.

Required Job Skills:

  • Organized, detail-oriented, accurate, self-motivated and multi-task oriented.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and the ability to operate complex operations, including, but not limited to, operating equipment in barges, working around and operating a large E-Crane operation, and strong communication and people skills.
  • The ability to understand and follow safety procedures, and execute site-specific job procedures and, subject to completion of the required training necessary for the operation of the E-Crane.
  • The ability to understand the obligation that you must stop operations if an unsafe act is being performed.
