Days/Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (37.5 hrs/wk) - Occasional on-call availability may be required

Location: The location of work may vary between sites in Victoria, Saanich, Brentwood Bay, Sidney, and Saanichton  

POSITION SUMMARY:  
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Facilities Maintenance Worker is vital to responding to maintenance requirements at our facilities. This position is critical in ensuring the safety, functionality and aesthetic appeal of our facilities. The Facilities Maintenance Worker will play a key role in maintaining a positive and efficient environment for staff, volunteers, and clients.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  
  • Perform ongoing scheduled maintenance of the facility within the scope of their qualifications as directed by the Maintenance Manager  
  • Respond to requests for the repair or replacement of various appliances, fixtures, furniture, etc. required for day-to-day program operations  
  • Assess the conditions of the facility for potential impact on operations and the health and safety of Beacon staff and occupants  
  • Assist various program and maintenance employees with special projects  
  • Liaise with Beacon tenants, and all Beacon employees in a prompt, courteous and professional manner  
  • Report situations that require the attention of senior management or Maintenace Manager
  • Ensure the assigned motor vehicle is properly maintained and serviced (if applicable)  
  • Other relevant duties as assigned  
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS  
  • 1-3 years of experience in a property maintenance or construction role  
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and carpentry  
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license, clear drivers abstract and access to a reliable vehicle  
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Skilled in the use and operation of hand and power tools  
  • Skilled in minor painting, cleaning, organization and general maintenance  
  • Physically capable and able to safely use ladders, lift, paint, clean, and move items  
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills   
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work with minimal supervision  
  • Ability to adhere to WorkSafe BC regulations  
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams, Word, etc.)  
  • Strong attention to detail
