Venture Dynamics is seeking experienced Shipyard Scaffold Erectors and Scaffold Helpers.

A Scaffolder is a worker responsible for assembling and dismantling temporary scaffolding structures, using hand tools and equipment to create safe elevated work platforms for other shipyard workers to access different parts of a vessel during repairs, maintenance, or new construction projects, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards while working at heights. 

Key responsibilities of a scaffold erector:

·         Erecting scaffolding:

Assemble scaffolding components like planks, poles, braces, and handrails according to project plans and safety guidelines. 

·         Dismantling scaffolding:

Carefully take apart the scaffolding structure once work is completed, following proper procedures for safe removal. 

·         Inspecting components:

Check all scaffold parts for damage or defects before use, ensuring they are in good working condition. 

·         Maintaining safety:

Adhere to fall protection measures, proper anchorage points, and ensure stability of the scaffold throughout the erection process. 

·         Reading blueprints:

Understand construction plans and drawings to accurately position the scaffolding based on project requirements. 

·         Coordinating with other workers:

Communicate with other construction crew members to ensure safe access and work areas. 

·         Operating tools and equipment:

Utilize hand tools like wrenches, hammers, and power tools to assemble and secure scaffolding components. 

 

Types of scaffolding a scaffold erector may work with:

Mobile tower scaffolding, Frame scaffolding, Suspended scaffolding, and Tube and clamp scaffolding. 

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Strong physical ability to lift heavy objects and work at heights
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures for scaffolding erection
  • Basic carpentry skills may be beneficial
  • Relevant certification or training in scaffolding erection 

Workers need to be able to pass a drug test and be able to access  all local shipyards and bases.

Work will be located at Huntington Ingalls Newport News. 

Pay to be determined following interview.
