Come join us for an overnight camp experience in your own backyard! Appleby College Summer Camps and Overnight Programs offer coeducational opportunities for skill development and social interaction in a dynamic and engaging day and overnight camp environment. With outstanding facilities and expert instruction, we emphasize individual growth, participation, teamwork, and—most importantly—fun!
Appleby’s scenic 60-acre campus and state of the art boarding house facilities provides an exceptional setting for our overnight camp program. Overnight campers get to experience the beautiful campus throughout the evening and during the day while participating in a wide variety of camps, s well as a two-week overnight camp experience this summer. We are looking for caring, qualified, and experienced individuals to help our campers ages 7 to 13 experience what overnight camp is all about. Appleby Overnight Instructors are responsible for all after-hours programming, accompany campers to all meals, check them into their programs each morning and, of course, do a lights-out check at the end of each fun-filled day! We require all summer program staff to have current CPR-C and First Aid certification and a valid Police/Vulnerable Sector Check.
Residing on campus as part of the Appleby Overnight Program Team, the Overnight Instructors are responsible for the supervision, programming, well-being and safety of all participants in Appleby Overnight Programs. Reporting to the Appleby Overnight Program Director, Summer Boarding Programs , this position will support the Appleby Summer Program’s mission to create an exceptional on-campus living experience.
WHAT MAKES THIS JOB AWESOME!
- Supervise and lead campers during daily evening programming
- Supervise the boarding house to ensure the safety of each camper
- Participate actively in all aspects of the camper's experience outside of their day camp program, including all after-hours programming, weekend excursions and events, accompany students to breakfast and dinner, check them into their programs each morning, conducting lights-out check,
- Nurture a positive overnight environment by leading, motivating and encouraging campers and fellow staff members
- Collaborate with the Appleby Overnight Program Director, and the Assistant Director, Ancillary Boarding Programs to establish open lines of communication and a positive culture in the residence
- Provide support to the Appleby Overnight Program Director with the planning and facilitation of activities
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety policies and protocols through filling out incident reports and reporting all medical or behavioural incidents with campers to the Overnight Program Director
- Facilitate meaningful recreation activities during evenings and weekends for Appleby Overnight Campers
- Establish excellent communication with campers and fellow staff by being visible, approachable, available to answer questions, mediate disputes, maintain community standards and to effectively deal with issues as they arise
- Work with day program staff to ensure that all campers are fully engaged in their respective day programs, and that they arrive on time, prepared for their day with snacks, water, appropriate clothing, etc.
- Capture photos and videos of campers when members of the Communication Team are unavailable
YOU WILL BE A GREAT FIT IF YOU:
- Have experience in an overnight camp or recreation program setting
- Demonstrate strong skills and experience working with children ages 7 to 13
- Have worked in camp, educational, or recreational environments
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and caring camp atmosphere
- Are confident leading games and activities for large groups
- Are versatile and enthusiastic in facilitating group activities
- Have a strong independent work ethic and know when to escalate concerns
- Excel at building relationships with campers, families, and staff
- Have training in student safety and mental health (a strong asset)
- Hold Bronze Cross and/or NLS lifeguarding certification (an asset).
- Are enrolled in post-secondary education
- Remain calm and effective in emergency situations.
- Are reliable, team-oriented, professional, and creative in programming.

- Training & Pre-Camp
- Appleby Overnight Training: August 5 – August 8, 2025: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Camp Session Dates & Hours
- August 10 – August 22, 2025 (Monday – Friday, mornings and evenings)
- Living on campus required during the session dates listed above
