Job Summary: The Evening/Overnight Shelter Advocate provides essential support to individuals experiencing homelessness due to domestic violence during evening / overnight hours at the transitional shelter. This role ensures the safety, security, and well-being of shelter guests by offering compassionate care, assistance with basic needs, and crisis intervention. The Shelter Advocate will maintain a calm and respectful environment, address client concerns, and facilitate access to services such as food, hygiene, and medical care. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently, and the capacity to handle emergency situations effectively. The ideal candidate will be empathetic, non-judgmental, flexible, and committed to supporting individuals in their journey toward stability. The position requires 40 hours per week

General Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Provide direct services to victims including crisis intervention and support services with integrity, energy, optimism, temperament, non-judgmental attitude, and compassion to all residents.

2. Adequately document services in Collaborate database and daily shift reports

3. Answer shelter phone line providing accurate information.

4. Do a walk through at the beginning of and during the shift to make sure that chores are completed, as well as checking in with residents as needed.

5. Make sure all alarms are set at designated times.

6. Protect client confidentiality at all times and the security of the shelter by enforcing the rights and responsibilities and guidelines for health and safety purposes.

7. Communicate effectively with residents, staff, volunteers, law enforcement and other agencies in a timely manner.

8. Complete paperwork for Intakes and Exits during the shift.

9. Transport residents as needed and approved by Director or Assistant Director during the shift.

10. Assist with processing donations, distribution, storage and inventory.

11. Provide superior communication when interacting with shelter residents utilizing trauma informed care approach.

12. Facilitate Support Groups on Evening Shift.

13. Employee must be able to perform physical tasks of lifting up to 30lbs and climbing up and down stairs.

14. Demonstrate integrity, excellent listening skills, steady temperament, and effective problem-solving techniques.

15. Adhere to agency confidentiality, policies, procedures, and code of ethics.

16. Complete Victim Service Provider training with 1 year of employment.

17. Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

18. Participate in shelter staff meetings as required.
