Special Education High School Life Skills Teacher - Summer Program

Intensive Education Academy is actively seeking a Special Education High School Life SKills Teacher to join our dedicated team for our summer program.

Responsibilities include:

• While maintaining a safe and comfortable atmosphere embeds academic instruction within  ADL (Activities of Daily Living) instruction to include hygiene skills, domestic skills, community skills, social, behavioral and recreational skills, and money management.
• Promotes student engagement, independence, and interdependence in learning and facilitates a positive learning community 
• Provides planning and  support in community settings as well as at our in-school locations
• Organizes community activities to such locations as well planned community trips grocery store, banks, library, fire station, police station as well to museums, sports, grocery shopping, banks, etc.
• Builds relationships with students and provides emotional support and crisis intervention when necessary
• Assists students with job readiness preparation.
• Transports students to community activities as appropriate.
• Develops daily and alternate lesson plans. 
• Documents academic, behavioral, and social/emotional areas of student performance through data collection.  

This position aligns with our summer program schedule and reports to the Director of Education.

Summer Program Schedule:

• June 30 to July 31
• 4 days per week: Monday through Thursday
• Time: 8:00 am to 12:00 pm - student day
  

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• CT State Teacher Certification in Special Education (165) preferred.
  

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Excellent communication skills.
  
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  
• Flexibility, patience, and strong organizational skills.
• 3 years of experience is preferred.
