POSITION BACKGROUND

The Electrical Estimator works in conjunction with, and reports to, the Power Services Manager. Evaluating bid specifications and drawings, ensuring required technical knowledge to successfully bid and win electrical projects. Follow-up with general contractors, subcontractors, engineers and owners, to ensure that bids are received. Work with client representatives to determine the client’s needs and their requirements, in order to help them find and purchase the appropriate products & services, by answering questions and providing detailed responses. Manage all aspects of awarded projects from start to finish.


CORE DUTIES

Quoting

  • Prepare cost estimates by analyzing proposals and requirements
  • Identify labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
  • Perform technical and administrative duties in the facilitation of tender assessment and execution
  • Support the research, writing, editing, formatting and proofreading of technical materials for proposals
  • Write, review, and contribute to proposal outlines and logical frameworks
  • Work with the Project Execution Team to prepare material for proposals
  • Resolve discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
  • Review proposal contracts and final text for clarity and consistent responsiveness to RFP requirements in preparation for final production
  • Advise on tendering procedures

Project Management / Coordination

  • Manage awarded projects successfully from start to finish ensuring project meets and/or exceeds project expectations;
  • Establish and maintain client and vendor relationships;
  • Review, concur and participate in internal regular review briefings;
  • Review, concur in changes affecting scope, timing, cost, and/or quality of work, as required;
  • Prioritize any changes to project scope;
  • Review whether stated improvements or benefits were realized from the project;
  • Review project lessons learned and post project reports for continuous improvement action;
  • Analyze and prepare approval drawings, submit and track to ensure efficient delivery of correct products
  • Create and submit as-built drawings, Operation and Maintenance Manuals and closeout documentation in project files
  • Ensure proper and timely project close out

Other Duties

  • May be required to complete work tasks outside of the typical scope
  • Ability to travel and attend site meetings, project meetings or events
  • Perform routine housekeeping duties
  • Cooperate with Training department for scheduling of new/recertification training
  • Observe all safety procedures and use proper Personal Protective Equipment (where required)
  • Ensure all Ketek’s work procedures, policies and Occupational Health and Safety regulations are followed
  • Represent Ketek in a light that is commensurate with the values of Management and the Corporate Mission Statement

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Required

  • High school diploma and/or post secondary school education
  • Minimum 5 years experience working as an estimator
  • Minimum 4 years experience in Electrical trade;
  • Strong knowledge of Electrical industry and current code standards;
  • Well versed in various construction related software including Estimating software, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc
  • Deep understanding of estimating principles including review of specifications and Request for Proposals, reading and interpretation of drawings, take-off, assignment of hours to tasks, proposal writing, calculation of all direct and indirect costs.
  • Strong problem identification and objection resolution skills;
  • Ability to build and maintain lasting relationships with customers;
  • Strong communication/people skills;

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand/sit, talk/hear, stoop/kneel, use hands/fingers to operate a computer and telephone and other equipment
  • Prolonged exposure to computer screens
  • Site visits may include walking, climbing ladders, accessing platforms etc

Work Environment

  • 80% Office
  •  10% Field
  •  10% Shop
  • May be required to work weekends and outside of regular office hours
