About the position

The Essential Skills Trainer, LMS Specialist, and Instructional Designer is a combined role supporting MNLC’s Learning Management System and developing custom, interactive course content.  This role is a one-year maternity leave replacement, offering a fixed-term opportunity to contribute to MNLC’s innovative learning initiatives.  This role helps learners build essential digital and learning skills by helping them navigate and engage effectively in online learning environments. Reporting to the Bridging Program Director, you will collaborate with instructors, IT administrators, and program managers across MNLC to optimize Moodle and advance the organization’s e-learning initiatives. Ideal candidates are creative, process-oriented, organized, and experienced in adult education, LMS administration, and instructional design. This position supports innovation in online and hybrid learning by integrating new tools, improving learner experience through data-informed design, and ensuring accessibility and inclusivity.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct needs assessments to identify learning objectives and goals for specific training programs.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather content, ensure accuracy, and design and develop custom interactive content while applying adult learning principles.
  • Recommend hybrid and asynchronous learning tools and methods to instructors, providing guidance on their benefits and best use for specific course objectives.
  • Deploy course evaluations, monitor results, and formulate recommendations based on participant feedback.
  • Provide training and guidance to instructors, students, staff, and other LMS users on Moodle features and best practices.
  • Monitor individual deliverables and provide relevant and timely reporting on the training status, progress, and established KPI’s.
  • Conduct regular quality checks to ensure the integrity of course content and functionality.
  • Develop and document standardized procedures for course setup, registration, and enrollment processes to streamline user experience.
  • Assist in hosting online information sessions for training programs and courses. 
  • Maintain and optimize the Moodle platform to meet organizational needs, enhancing functionality and usability, staying informed of updates, and coordinating with the hosting partner for technical support and updates.
  • Identify, engage, and partner with EdTech vendors and service providers to deliver learning solutions that align with MNLC’s objectives.
  • Provide expert support for LMS functionality, addressing and resolving user challenges to maintain a seamless learning environment. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • A degree or diploma in Instructional Design, Adult Education, or closely related field.
  • 3-5 years of adult education experience including instructional design coupled with experience designing and developing e-learning course content. 2-3 years' experience with a learning management system and LMS administration (experience with Moodle is considered an asset).
  • 2-3 years of experience working in the non-profit sector helping marginalized and/or racialized communities.
  • Applied understanding of the principles of pedagogy and instructional design.
  • Demonstrated ability to create courses for a blended training program.
  • Technology savvy including proficiency in MS Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.), proficiency with Articulate 360 (Storyline, Rise), H5P, or similar software, Moodle, D2L or other similar LMS platform, and basic HTML knowledge required.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise discretion.
  • Work well independently and on a team with the ability to work under pressure and thrive in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to build collaborative relationships, excellent verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong analytic ability and thought process, ability to problem solve. 
  • People-oriented with substantial technology-related experience, and implementation of delivery platforms.
