PART TIME CONTRACT POSITION, 20 HOURS PER WEEK, $30 RATE OF PAY PER HOUR
Looking for a qualified horsemanship trainer to follow a step by step natural horsemanship program designed by the Director of Equine and Livestock. The trainer should be able to start colts and work with problem horses all the while creating a safe working space for both the horse and human. Always using kind and humane training techniques.

- Video of you riding a horse at a walk, trot and canter.
- Video of putting on a first ride of a colt or dealing with a problem horse.
- Share the philosophy of your horsemanship and preferred training background.
Essential Functions of the Position
- Evaluate new horses' needs and direction they should go in.
- Keep daily notes of each horse's progress and oversee staff's notes of progress with horses they are working with.
- Update animal records in PetPoint with training notes, as appropriate.
- Assist in overall evaluation of equines (behavioral, medical, adoptability). Assist staff or veterinarian during medical valuation as needed.
- Meet with potential adopters, as needed, to support the adoption process related to an equine's temperament, rideability to ensure the best match.
- Help Director assist Cruelty Investigations off site when needed to determine temperament and hauling capability of equines.
- Help Director put on Natural Horsemanship Clinics and demos for the public to showcase HSNT resources for potential adopters.
- Report needs for supplies or vehicle repairs to the Director of Equine & Livestock.
- Represent the Humane Society of North Texas by providing excellent customer service.
- Protect the confidential information on customers and donors.
- Additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Equine & Livestock.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities Needed to Perform the Essential Functions of this Position
- 4 years steady equine experience of advanced riding and training.
- Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree in an animal field preferred.
- Proficient at working safely with untrained equines; able to professionally execute training from groundwork through riding (colt starting, advanced behavioral issues such as bucking, etc.)
- Must have a valid Texas drivers' license and be insurable on the HSNT vehicle insurance policy.
- Must possess skills to drive vehicle pulling horse trailers (bumper and gooseneck styles.)
- Trailer loading and trailer loading safety is crucial to this position.
- Knowledge of Humane Society of North Texas policies and protocols, such as, but not limited to , adoption, cleaning and medical protocols.
- Working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions, and animal handling and behavior.
- Ability to handle animals safely and with patience and gentleness.
- Ability to represent the Humane Society of North Texas in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers, and staff.
- Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships within the Humane Society of North Texas, with volunteers, the public, and be a team player.
- Must be patient, courteous and work well under stressful conditions.
- Must demonstrate initiative and flexibility in constantly changing work demands.
- Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.
Required Professional Licensing or Certifications
- Valid Texas Driver's License

Working Conditions
- The individual performing this job may be required to work more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week. Weekend work will be necessary.
