Enrichment Instructor - Game Theory

This course is designed to introduce students to Game Theory, the mathematical model of collaboration, conflict, and competition, while improving their decision-making and strategy skills. Students will explore Game Theory working through such classic problems as the Prisoner’s Dilemma and the Tragedy of the Commons. Students will explore the application of these concepts to decision-making and strategy by working through different real-life situations and facing each other in collaborative and competitive games, such as Settlers of Catan, Cards, and various collaboration games.

The purpose of an Enrichment Instructor, Summer Academy is to teach a one-week enrichment course in the Summer Academy, engaging students in the summer learning environment and delivering Appleby College curriculum. Appleby Teachers are expected to have a high level of expertise in their teaching discipline and are effective, stimulating, and competent facilitators of the educational process.

Our enrichment courses are designed to engage learners with hands-on activities and creative lessons that focus on improving skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, leadership and collaboration, organization, and public speaking, in small classes that foster a sense of community and belonging.

All Enrichment programs run on-campus, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., unless otherwise specified. Please visit our website for a full listing of courses, including descriptions and dates.

Specific Accountabilities:

The instructor must support in his/her teaching practice, the Mission, Vision and Curriculum of Appleby College’s Summer Academy programBe a supportive, positive, and contributing member of the Appleby College community, both sharing and accepting constructive feedback.Establish a positive rapport and a solid level of understanding of the needs of each student, while engaging the students as active learners in the classroomEnsure appropriate planning and preparation for each classMaintain an appropriate level of discipline in the classroomMaintain an attendance roster for each courseEnsure implementation of Appleby College Summer Academy expectations and develop course specific curriculum for each course

Knowledge and Skills:


Post-Secondary Education at the University level in progress or complete

Teacher education training (B.Ed., M.Ed.) an assetPrevious teaching experience in the subject area is considered an assetTeachers will possess appropriate academic credentials illustrating a high level of knowledge and expertise in their teaching disciplineAre exceptional in verbal and written communication skillspossess exquisite time management and organizational skillsCan demonstrate effective problem-solving skillsAre able to adapt to changing needs and circumstances

Workplace Requirements:

As a condition of employment, if over 18 yrs. a criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening is required Valid Standard First Aid and CPR is requiredAll selected candidates will be required to attend a training session on Saturday June 1, 2024Location: Appleby College, 540 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville, Ontario
