Hours: Monday to Friday - 37.5 hours per week
Location: Kelowna. Must be able to commit to working in the office

The Canucks Autism Network (CAN) is looking for a Regional Lead to join our Kelowna team!

The Regional Lead will oversee a variety of functions that significantly impact our goals! This role is responsible for the selection, delivery, and evaluation of the Canuck Autism Network's programs for children, youth, adults, and families within their assigned communities, ensuring the success of CAN initiatives in each area. Additional responsibilities include recruiting staff and volunteers, organizing community events, engaging partners, and managing family and participant communications, including regular surveys and feedback. Reporting to the Director of Programs, this position will also collaborate closely with other Managers and Directors across CAN.

The Canucks Autism Network (CAN) is a charitable organization dedicated to providing programs for individuals on the autism spectrum and their families, while promoting acceptance and inclusion through community engagement and training initiatives across BC. Our vision is for every individual on the autism spectrum to be understood, accepted, and supported in all community spaces. 

Key Functions: 

Program Selection and Oversight

  • Work within budget provided by head office to select and plan children’s, youth/adult and family experience programs that best match local participant interest/demand, staffing availability and partnerships available in the local community 
  • Build partnerships in your community to deliver programs that align with CAN’s priorities and processes in each program area, while being cost efficient and sustainable 
  • Oversee program delivery: read communication logs from each program (children’s, family and youth/adult) and follow up as needed with participant, staffing or facility concerns 
  • Be a key point of contact for local participants and their families who have questions, concerns or other feedback about all types of Canucks Autism Network programs 
  • Meet with partners on a regular basis to ensure key goals continue to be met through partnered programing, and to continuously evaluate cost effectiveness 
  • Be responsible for the safe storage of equipment and supplies, maintaining that all equipment is in good working order prior to usage. 
  • Communicate with local facilities, book facilities and oversee facility contracts 


Marketing, Communications and Community Events

  • In collaboration with Marketing & Communications and the Registration teams, conduct regular surveys with families and youth/adult participants in your area, to continuously evaluate local demand and areas for improvement
  • In collaboration with the Marketing & Communications team, provide content for local newsletters, including an overview of new programs to highlight, staff "shout outs" and partnered community events
  • Propose local community events to attend to promote CAN programming. Work with Marketing & Communications team for budget. Oversee staffing and volunteers to attend these events
  • Support Sensory Friendly Space activations at local events, overseeing equipment, staffing and volunteers for these events


Human Resources

  • Source different recruitment contacts for Staff & Volunteers and announce upcoming programming schedule/recruitment timelines
  • Full cycle recruitment of staff and volunteers: screening application, scheduling interviews, interviewing, reference checks, scheduling, confirming all new staff
  • Conduct all onboarding and General Orientation and training for staff and volunteers
  • Provide oversight of key risk management issues, including first aid reporting, participant support needs and any other incident reporting


Training & Accessibility Consultation

  • Meeting with local groups interested in CAN training (i.e. school staff, recreation / sport providers, other community spaces/organizations) and guide clients to appropriate CAN services (workshops, accessibility consultation, sensory friendly space activations)
  • Oversee the delivery of workshops, accessibility consultation and sensory friendly space activations in your community, following processes and pricing as defined by head office
  • Identify local staff who can deliver training and accessibility consultation services. Onboard and mentor these staff, guided by procedures provided from head office.


Fundraising

  • Work with the Development Team to support fundraising efforts in your community; meeting with local donors/potential donors, attending third party events, supporting local gran writing and identifying potential funding sources to head office (including potential donors, sponsors, etc.)


General

  • Communicate the mission, vision, values and operating principles of the organization to program staff, volunteers and other stakeholders,
  • Attend regular meetings with key co-workers, including but not limited to: regional staff meetings, program delivery meetings, monthly all staff meetings, and annual in-person collaboration meetings in Vancouver.
  • Contribute as a member of the Canucks Autism Network team on any projects or activities as required


Qualifications & Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years experience planning and overseeing programs for children, youth and adults with support needs
  • Post-Secondary education in a related field such as special education and therapeutic recreation
  • Experience supervising a team of staff and volunteers
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with community partners to deliver programming
  • Experience with marketing/communications and/or fundraising is an asset
  • Experience with Canucks Autism Network is an asset
  • Current First Aid Certifications
  • Valid BC Driver's License 

Knowledge, Sills & Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills and ability to appropriate deal with a number of different target audiences (ei. participants, parents, staff, volunteers, community stakeholders)
  • Previous program planning and facilitation is an asset
  • Excellent team building and interpersonal skills
  • Strong presentation and teaching skills, able to deliver training and workshops to a range of audiences
  • A collaborative relationship builder with community partners and stakeholders
  • Ability to work as a team member in a dynamic, complex environment and organize time and workload effectively
  • Willing to travel to Vancouver for annual training
  • Working knowledge of current local sport, recreation and community leisure trends
  • Passionate about Canucks Autism Network and its values
