Job Summary:

The Emergency Room Scheduler plays a vital role in coordinating and managing the scheduling of patients in the emergency room department of a healthcare facility. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment. The Emergency Room Scheduler ensures that patients are scheduled for appropriate medical care in a timely manner, optimizing the workflow of the emergency room department.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Scheduling: Create and maintain staff schedules for all shifts at all Company medical facilities, ensuring adequate coverage at all times.
  • Communication: Liaise with department managers, nursing supervisors, and other relevant staff to determine staffing needs and address any scheduling conflicts or issues.
  • Coordination: Coordinate with HR to ensure compliance with staffing policies, including tracking of staff time-off requests, vacations, and other scheduling constraints.
  • Adaptability: Respond to changes in patient volume, staff availability, and other factors affecting scheduling requirements.
  • Optimization: Continuously evaluate and adjust scheduling processes to optimize staff coverage, minimize overtime, and maintain high levels of patient care, while adhering to established staffing matrix bases upon patient volume.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of staff schedules, and other relevant information.
  • Problem-solving: Address any scheduling conflicts or staffing shortages promptly and effectively to ensure uninterrupted patient care.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  This position has no supervisory responsibilities

Education and/or Experience, Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in healthcare scheduling or a related field
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are essential for managing complex schedules and ensuring adequate staff coverage.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication skills are necessary for effectively coordinating with multiple stakeholders and addressing scheduling issues.
  • Problem-solving Abilities: The ability to quickly identify and resolve scheduling conflicts or staffing shortages is crucial for this role.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in scheduling software, Q-Genda, Workday, Sling, and other relevant computer applications
  • Flexibility: The ability to adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment is essential.
  • Teamwork: A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are important for success in this role.

Language, Mathematical, and/or Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to communicate in a high pressure environment.

In the performance of the duties of this job the employee is required to travel, drive a motor vehicle, communicate using telephone and e-mail.
