Harmony DC Public Charter School is a public charter school located in NE Washington, DC. serving students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade. 

The mission of Harmony School of Excellence-DC is to prepare students for higher learning in a safe, caring, and collaborative atmosphere through a quality learner-centered educational program with a strong emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

o      Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.

o      Master's degree and/or teacher certification are preferred.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

o      Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.

o      Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

o      Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual differences.

o      Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.

o      Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.

o      Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to the students.

o      Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

o      Strive to implement, by instruction and action, the districts philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.

o      Assess the accomplishments of the students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.

o      Refer students for evaluation by district specialists as required.

o      Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

o      Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.

o      Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.

o      Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior. Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

o      Make provisions for being available to the students and to the parents for education-related purposes when required.

o      Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluate their job performance.

o      Maintain and improve professional competence.

o      Participate in district and campus staff development.

o      Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees.

o      Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues.

o      Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members.

o      Prepare and submit lesson plans in a timely manner in the platform the school utilizes.

o      Maintain a minimum number of grades in the Gradebook in a timely manner.

o      Perform other duties as assigned.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

o      Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.

o      Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district.

o      Ability to organize special programs for assigned campus.

o      Ability to use computer including software, database used by the district, spreadsheet and word processing software, calculator, copy machine and telephone.

o      Ability to analyze data

o      Ability to use effective interview techniques, effective public speaking skills, and problem-solving skills
