Position Overview:
Veterans Engineering is seeking a skilled and licensed Electrician to support the maintenance and operation of complex electrical systems at the Palo Alto VAMC. This position requires hands-on expertise with both low and high-voltage systems in a healthcare setting.
Required Qualifications:
- Copy of valid California Electrician’s License (C-10 or equivalent)
- Copy of current state driver’s license
- Candidate’s current residence must be indicated on submission
- Minimum 4 years of relevant electrical experience
- Must be eligible to pass background screening and credentialing for VA access
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintain, install, modify, and
troubleshoot building electrical systems including:
- Circuit breakers, distribution panels, power supplies, switches, outlets, and lighting systems
- High voltage equipment such as switchgear, transformers, and constant voltage regulators
- Emergency power systems: EPSS, ATS, fuel storage tanks (UST/AST)
- Perform wiring, conduit installation, splicing, and safety testing
- Repair and service electrical/pneumatic equipment including automatic doors, kitchen/laundry systems, and control panels
- Work with solid-state circuitry, flexible conduit, relays, contactors, and photocells
Physical Requirements:
- Work from ladders, platforms, scaffolding, and confined or elevated spaces
- Stand, stoop, kneel, climb, and lift up to 40 lbs frequently; heavier items with assistance
- Comfortable working in tiring or awkward positions
Working Conditions:
- Work performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions
- May be exposed to:
- Electrical shock, heights (30 ft+), rotary motors, loud or greasy environments
- Injury risks from falls, cuts, and mechanical hazards
- Must be vigilant with safety procedures and proper PPE
