St. Martin’s is the only Episcopal school in the New Orleans area that serves students 8 weeks old through 12th grade. The educational philosophy of the George Cottage is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, which emphasizes allowing children to follow their natural curiosity and creativity to stimulate a love for learning. We strive to provide an open-ended and child-centered curriculum that emphasizes learning through play, listening, moving, touching, and observing.

Summary

The Early Childhood Teacher is responsible for helping to plan and implement a developmentally appropriate program for young children and communicating with families about their child's progress.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Conduct self in a professional manner 
  • Maintain a safe environment and adhere to state licensing guidelines
  • Adhere to the expectations and routines of daily routines at StM
  • Attend and actively participate in school-wide and divisional meetings
  • Engage in a variety of professional development opportunities both required and self-initiated

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, or related field preferred (Educational Psychology or Family Studies) or proven experience
  • 2+ years of teaching experience in an early childhood education program
  • Ability to facilitate learning and maintain a developmentally appropriate and cognitively engaging classroom environment 
  • Certification and documentation that meets and maintains any and all federal, state, and local requirements to work in an educational childcare setting
