The Opportunity:

As part of the Language Programs team, the Early Childhood Educator provides a caring and positive learning environment for children in the childcare programs. The primary responsibilities for this position are planning, preparing and delivery of daily early childhood educational activities.

Key Responsibilities: 

1. Is alert and responsive to children's needs at all times, fostering a caring and positive learning environment.

2. Participates in planning for, and implements daily activities, and ensures that all activities are developmentally appropriate. Prepares materials and equipment for activities.

3. Maintains the cleanliness of equipment and supplies.

4. Guides children in activities; telling stories, teaching songs, leading discussions.

5. Guides and assists children in the development of appropriate life skills and interactive behaviour. 

6. Ensures the safety and hygiene of all children while in the center.

7. Immediately reports instances of suspected child abuse to the Day Care Coordinator.

8. Adheres to the Centers guidelines for discipline and managing behaviors appropriately.

9. Maintains the cleanliness of equipment and supplies.

10. Adheres to DIVERSEcity and personnel policies, procedures and practices.

11. Any other duties as required.

Qualified Candidates will possess:

1. Early Childhood Education Certificate, with a minimum of one years' experience working with children aged 0 - 6 years. Infant Toddler Certificate and/or Special Needs Certificate is an asset.

2. Previous current and relevant experience in a childcare setting.

3. Understanding and sensitivity to the needs of young children, and their parents/caregivers.

4. Cross-cultural experience and knowledge of settlement issues.

5. Ability to plan daily activities appropriate to the curriculum of the program.

6. Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.

7. Excellent time management skills.

8. Ability to communicate effectively in English, oral and written.

9. Standard First Aid and CPR training; Child Safe training and Food Safe training are assets. 

10. A criminal record check is a condition of employment.

11. Second language an asset

A Criminal Record Check is a requirement of employment.
