The Maryland Science Center seeks an enthusiastic and highly motivated early childhood professional to serve as our Early Childhood Education Professional Learning Coordinator. Our early childhood education professional learning program is a well-established STEM program serving Early Childhood Educators throughout the state of Maryland. Eligible candidates will be an approved trainer or current associated trainer with the MSDE office of Early Childhood, have experience in a managerial position, experience with curriculum development for adult audiences, and a basic understanding of science concepts for early childhood audiences. Four years’ experience in Early Childhood (birth to 5 years of age) required. The Early Childhood Education Professional Development Coordinator plays a pivotal role in ensuring the excellent operation of an endowed program, as well as creating high-quality activities and programming for Maryland educators.  Basic Functions:

▪ Develop and implement teacher training and curriculum support

▪ Assist in management of the Teacher P.D. budget

▪ Attend training as directed by supervisor

▪ Interact with children and other guests in a manner that is appropriate for their stage of development and model good early childhood practices for others.

▪ Develop and implement long-term sustainability of the program

▪ Supervise and empower part-time staff and volunteers

▪ Participate in the programmatic evaluation process

▪ Other Duties as assigned

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

▪ Knowledge of: Stages of Early Childhood Development, Abilities and expected behaviors of young children, Appropriate language and actions for interactions with young children and adults, Basic science

▪ Skills: Excellent interpersonal and written communication, Excellent organizational skills, Curriculum development for early childhood and adult audiences, Stamina, Patience

▪ Ability to: Speak in front of and children and adults individually and in groups Provide excellent guest service and ensure the same from other staff Remain imperturbable and composed in all situations Take initiative Utilize creativity Evaluate staff and volunteers Evaluate programming against content standards Act as lead with and for staff at P.D. events Create and maintain schedules to meet program partner and staff needs Act as an ambassador for early childhood STEAM education in the community None. Guidance given to associated trainers and workshop assistants

Education: BA/BS in Early Childhood Education, Education, Science, or a related field from an accredited university.

Experience: Designing curriculum; working with adult audiences; experience working with underserved audiences. At least four years of working in an early childhood (birth to 5 years of age) environment is required.

Compensation: $24 per hour (210 - 250 hrs. avg. yearly)

Hours: As needed to develop, coordinate, and present programming

Additional requirements: Approved MSDE Early Childhood Professional Development Trainer. Maintain MSDE-approved Early Childhood Professional Development Trainer status

Must be able to pass a background check and fingerprinting
