This is a full-time position starting in September 2025.

The Position: 

Reporting to the Head of the Upper School, the Director of Student Leadership leads the development and oversight of the student leadership experience in the Upper School at Havergal College. In addition to the expectations of the faculty role, the Director of Student Leadership supports the Prefect team, the faculty Prefect mentors, as well as the co-curricular club and competitive club faculty advisors in the Senior School. This role partners with Heads of School (Middle and Senior) as well as the Head of the Junior School and Assistant Head, Junior School, to implement Havergal’s leadership attributes holistically, partnering in model thatsupport all students (JK-12) in developing their capacity to lead effectively.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Supports the Head of the Upper School to operationalize Havergal’s leadership attributes in a mission-aligned wayand reflects the Portrait of a Grad.
  • Work with the Heads of Schools (Middle and Senior) as well as the Head of the Junior School and Assistant Head, Junior School to ensure the attributes are implemented developmentally from JK-12 and new students are inducted into leadership development.
  • Design and lead leadership workshops, including planning and coordinating the leadership retreat for incoming grade 12 student leaders.
  • Support the development and growth of faculty advisors for formal leaders (Club Advisors, Competitive Club Advisors, Prefect Mentors).
  • Lead and manage the Senior School club programming, including the competitive club programs.
  • Coordinate with the Head,Senior School (responsible for House Captains and House Advisors) to ensure a collaborative student leadership experience.
  • Assist with the management of budgets within the student leadership program.
  • Manage the student election process, including communications to students and parents about the process and the results (election of Prefects, House Captains, House Executive, Student Grade Representatives, Club Heads, Community Partnership Heads and Performing Arts Heads).
  • Coordinate all club and new club applications, faculty supervision and attendance.
  • Connect and collaborate with all COSSOT leaders in the network to coordinate schedules and provide appropriate programming at Havergal and elsewhere. Collaborate with the Head,Senior School to identify dates and ensure COSSOT programming works within the Havergal calendar.
  • Lead the Social Prefects to plan and organize COSSOT events, including semi-formals.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

  • Post-secondary education, including OCT in good standing.
  • Exemplary teaching experience in an academic, middle or secondary school.
  • Experience in an independent school is an asset.
  • Previous work developing student leaders.
  • Previous leadership experience in an educational setting.
  • An ability and desire to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, time-management and communication skills.
  • Commitment toward continued professional development and growth.
  • Demonstrated energy, commitment and a readiness to participate in the co-curricular program and the diverse life of the school community.
