Essential Functions:

The Director of Retail Logistics is responsible for directing the activities of the transportation, warehousing, aftermarket (salvage/recycling), and retail outlet store operations to promote organizational sustainability and growth. Directs the flow of donated, purchased, and salvage goods throughout the organizational network of locations. Provides leadership and develops operational goals while guiding and promoting employee development within the assigned departments.

1. Leads warehouse, salvage/recycling, transportation, and outlet store operations.

2. Directs the flow of donated, purchased, salvage/recycling merchandise between stores, donation centers, warehouses, outlets, and vendors.

3. Leads management staff of salvage/recycling, transportation, warehousing, and outlet store operations.

4. Directs the logistical flow of all materials in and out of the Goodwill East distribution center and throughout the network of stores and donation centers.

5. Holds staff accountable and takes any necessary corrective action to ensure accountability and adherence to goals, policies, procedures, and direction.

6. Ensures all transportation safety regulations are followed to make for accident-free driving, lowered insurance costs, and ensures DOT regulatory compliance.

7. Works to improve financial viability and sustainability of the transportation, salvage/recycling, warehousing, and outlet store departments.

8. Upholds organizational and departmental standards in regard to financial performance, quality of work, reliability, safety, and efficiency.

9. Reads, interprets, distributes, and takes appropriate action on financial reports, labor reports, maintenance reports, salvage surveys, etc.

10. Works to reduce and minimize trash/waste expense to the organization.

11. Assists with preparation of department budget. Analyzes, controls, and approves or arranges for approval of expenditures to conform to budgetary requirements.

12. Identifies opportunities and generates ideas to improve logistic operations.

POSITION DESCRIPTION


Skills and Abilities:

1. Must be able to interact cordially and productively with a variety of people.

2. Must be able to market Goodwill and explain the mission.

3. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with, transportation, warehouse, salvage/recycle, and retail operations personnel.

4. Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly in English.

5. Must be able to work flexible hours on short notice, including nights and weekends, and occasionally long hours.

6. Must have access to transportation. Must be able to pass MVR check and provide proof of a valid driver’s license, liability insurance, vehicle registration and a current vehicle inspection sticker.

7. Must be able to lift up to 25#’s frequently and up to 50#’s occasionally.

8. Must be able to engage in prolonged standing and walking and in frequent bending, stooping, and stretching.

9. Must exhibit proficiency in the use and operation of warehouse equipment to include pallet jacks, tippers, balers, and material handling containers.

10. Must be certified to operate a forklift or obtain certification within 90 days.

11. Must be able to function in a work environment with high stress.

12. Must have knowledge of salvage and recycle commodities such as textiles, shoes, electronics, books, plastic, glass, metal, etc.

13. Must exhibit good judgment and decision-making abilities.

Requirements:

1. Four-year college degree in business management or related field.

2. Five years of leadership experience in warehousing, trucking, logistics.

3. Must possess knowledge of Department of Transportation rules and regulations.

4. Must maintain minimum automobile liability insurance as required by the State of Louisiana and be insurable through the Company’s insurance carrier.

5. Must possess a valid Louisiana driver’s license and maintain current registration and state vehicle inspection.

6. Must be proficient in MS Office including Excel & Word.

Working Conditions:

Frequent physical activity, exposure to used donated goods, materials. The ability to tolerate frequent periods of high stress, manage a heavy workload and multiple priorities. Office, retail, and warehouse environment with forklift traffic, truck traffic, high noise level, and moving containers.
