Job Overview
The Director of Nursing (DON- must be a Registered Nurse) is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the nursing staff and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care within our facility. This position requires a dedicated professional with extensive experience in nursing administration, strong clinical skills, and a passion for enhancing resident care. The DON will collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement effective care plans while ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards.

Duties

  • Lead and manage the nursing department, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluation of nursing staff.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized care plans for residents, ensuring that they meet their medical and emotional needs.
  • Conduct regular assessments of resident health status and oversee the completion of Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessments.
  • Ensure adherence to medical terminology standards and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Advocate for resident rights and ensure that all staff are trained in these principles.
  • Oversee shift management to ensure adequate staffing levels and quality care delivery at all times.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes through effective communication and teamwork.
  • Stay updated on best practices in nursing administration, physiology knowledge, and current healthcare trends.

Skills

  • Proven experience in a nursing home environment with a deep understanding of resident care needs.
  • Strong knowledge of care plans, MDS processes, and medical terminology.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage nursing staff effectively.
  • In-depth understanding of resident rights and commitment to advocating for them.
  • Proficient in shift management with an ability to handle staffing challenges efficiently.
  • Solid background in nursing administration with a focus on quality improvement initiatives.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess situations critically and make informed decisions.
