Job Description:
The Director of Medical Records oversees release of information (ROI) services within the facility, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and organizational regulations. This role manages daily operations for ROI and courier services, ensures the accuracy of the legal medical record, and represents the facility in legal proceedings related to medical records. The Director is responsible for developing policies, forecasting resource needs, and ensuring alignment with the facility’s mission and values.

This role manages daily operations for ROI and courier services, ensures the accuracy of the legal medical record, and represents the facility in legal proceedings related to medical records. The Director is responsible for developing policies, forecasting resource needs, and ensuring alignment with the facility’s mission and values.
- Associate’s degree (preferred).
- RHIT/RHIA certification and AHIMA ROI Micro credentialing (preferred).
- Minimum 10 years of ROI experience, including 5 years in a leadership role.
- Knowledge of federal regulations, HIPAA, and medical facility policies.
- Proficient in analyzing reports, metrics, and operational data.
- Strong verbal and written communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Experience in Health Information Management and its impact on revenue cycle workflows.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a medical records department (required).
- Direct and oversee ROI and courier operations to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
- Serve as Records Custodian and SME for the facility, ensuring accuracy of the legal medical record.
- Validate external access to Electronic Health Records (EHR) for ROI purposes.
- Mentor and manage staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
- Develop and enforce policies and procedures to support ROI best practices.
- Analyze data to forecast departmental needs and make budget recommendations.
- Plan and participate in projects related to system expansions and acquisitions.
