Summary of Duties:
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer and working with organization leaders, the Director of Human Resources will be responsible for providing leadership, professional knowledge, and guidance/support in the development, management, administration, and evaluation of Lil’wat̓ Nation human resource management affairs. These include plans, policies, programs, processes, procedures, information systems, reports, and files. They will have both administrative and strategic responsibilities, helping us to plan and administer important functions, such as staffing, training, health and safety, employee relations and development, and compensation and benefits.
Expectations:
HR Administration
- Complete regular reporting for auditing,
analytical and planning purposes.
- Responsible for developing and managing the department
budget.
- Support HR employees & leaders with
recruiting, onboarding, internal movements, and offboarding processes.
- Manage the development and maintenance of the
Human Resources sections of both the company website, particularly
recruiting, culture, and company information.
- In conjunction with the Finance
Department, manage and update employee compensation and benefits.
- Participate in and/or lead projects
focused on continuous improvement.
- Support, organize and host events
such as employee recognition events and job fairs.
- Support the process of
immigration when approved by CAO.
- Utilize the Human Resources Information System
(HRIS) to eliminate administrative tasks, empower employees, and meet the other
needs of the organization.
- Assist HR employees & leaders
with updating and creating job descriptions.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
Employee Relations
- Formulate, recommend, update and
communicate Human Resources policies, procedures, programs, laws and objectives
for the Nation on any topic associated with employee relations, employee rights,
health & safety.
- Assist & advise leaders with
performance management & disciplinary procedures, including terminations,
and the annual performance evaluation process.
- Conduct investigations when employee
complaints or concerns are brought forth. Review employee appeals through the Nation
complaint procedure.
- Collate & analyze employee
feedback across all levels on a regular basis and revise people programs and
policies to generate more positive outcomes. This includes conducting surveys
to monitor employee satisfaction.
- Coach and train leaders in their
communication, feedback, recognition, and interaction responsibilities with the
employees who report to them.
- Hire & train HR employees and provide ongoing supervision, coaching and development opportunities.
Training and Development
- Lead the implementation and ongoing enhancement of occupational health & safety programs.
- Provides necessary education and materials to leaders and employees including workshops, manuals, employee handbooks, and standardized reports.
- Support leaders with professional & leadership development and succession planning efforts.
- Establish and monitor in-house employee training which may include, new employee onboarding/orientation, leadership management, effective communication, health & safety, etc.
- Coordinate all Human Resources training programs and assign appropriate access levels to systems & programs.
- Advise leaders & employees inquiring about policies, pay rates, and benefit programs outlined in HR policies.
Experience and Attributes:
- Human Resources degree or certificate equivalent issued by a recognized learning Institution.
- Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation preferred.
- 6+ years working experience in Human Resources, including 3+ years at a leadership/management level.
- Experience in the development and administration of Human Resources plans, policies, and programs including, organization design, recruitment, direct and indirect compensation, employee performance evaluation and development, health and safety, workplace harassment & violence, employee discipline, and funding.
- Strong knowledge & experience working with related federal and provincial government standards, statutes, regulations, laws, programs and Agencies.
- Excellent leadership, management, administration, development, coaching, communications (oral and written), organizational, consultative and training skills.
- Previous experience working with First Nations required.
- Previous training and experience with cultural safety, lateral violence, and trauma informed practices.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, multi-task, maintain attention to detail and demonstrate confidentiality.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. Previous experience with HRIS an asset.
- Motivated self-starter and with strong interpersonal skills.
- Highly professional in all aspects of business, presentation and interaction with internal & external stakeholders.
- Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check, including the vulnerable sector.
