Director of Formation and Evangelization

The Director of Formation and Evangelization (DFE) oversees all aspects of formation at Sacred Heart Parish and outreach/evangelization to the surrounding community in collaboration with the Pastor/Administrator. Among other duties, the DFE will provide direct formation in discipleship for parish volunteers and ensure prudent stewardship of Sacred Heart’s financial resources regarding all formation and outreach initiatives.

 

  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

              (other duties may be assigned)

?        Assists the Pastor/Administrator in discerning, developing and implementing the parish vision of formation, evangelization, and outreach. Also assists in identifying and recruiting leaders and volunteers (group leaders, mentors, hosts, etc.) from within the parish community who will assist in these formation programs and outreach initiatives and in providing for their initial and ongoing training/formation opportunities

?        Coordinates a parish adult formation team in implementing a formation process (e.g. small groups, catechetical education) in accordance with diocesan and parish visions of adult formation

?        Coordinates a parish youth formation team in implementing an age appropriate formation process in accordance with diocesan and parish visions of youth formation for all grade levels - 1st-12th.

?        Coordinates the OCIA Team in implementing a catechetical and formation program according to the directives of the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults

?        Serves as the Parish Safe Environment Coordinator in ensuring the implementation of all guidelines under Safe Environment program of the diocese

?        Works closely with the Pastor/Administrator in periodically evaluating these programs in the parish in relation to the mission of the Church and the overall goals, objectives and strategies of parish life.

Continually engage in continuing formation or education pertaining to the DFE role

 

THIS POSITION SUPERVISES: All volunteers for the formation programs, outreach initiatives, and other parish programs of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morgan City.

 

QUALIFICATIONS TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY:

Education and/or Experience:

·      High school Diploma and/ or college degree preferred.

·      Degree in Sacred Theology or a related field is preferred.

·      Expertise in contemporary best practices for the formation of men, women, and young people as disciples of Our Lord Jesus Christ in accord with Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition as interpreted by the Magisterium is required.

·      Lived experience in forming disciples is strongly preferred.

 Other Skills and Requirements:

·       Must be able to successfully complete Safe Environment training.

·       Must be able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive situations and documents/ records.

·       Must be a practicing Catholic with knowledge of Catholic Church and its teachings and adherence to teachings.

·       Must follow the lifestyle according to the Code of Professional Conduct of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux.

·       Must be able to drive within the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux/ venues around the Sacred Heart Parish.

·       Must be able to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.

·       Must be able to communicate clearly by phone, in written form including email, and verbally.

·       Must be able to effectively collaborate with, present information to, and train volunteers.

·       Must be able to solve practical problems and effectively engage among leaders, volunteers, parents, and youth.

·       Must be able to multi-task and set priorities.

·       Must possess strong organizational skills.

·      Must be able to present proficiency (or the ability to quickly gain proficiency) in basic software programs such as Microsoft Office, Google Calendar, Flocknote and the like is required.

·      Must have knowledge in design applications such as Canva or the Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.

·       Ability to work independently.

·       Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting with other ministry groups.

·       Must be able to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.

·       Must be able to lift 40 pounds at a time.

·       Continually promotes the mission, vision, and values of the community of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morgan City

 

Work Schedule: 35 hours per week; Monday through Friday
