Position Summary:
Lead the strategy behind the assets that power our operations. As Director, Fleet & Assets with Tahltan Nation Development Corporation (TNDC), you will drive the performance, governance, and long-term planning of fleet, equipment, shop, and yard operations—ensuring alignment with organizational priorities, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance.
In this senior leadership role, you will provide enterprise-wide oversight of TNDC’s physical assets, leading a team of managers and operational leaders while guiding capital investment strategies, asset lifecycle planning, and continuous improvement initiatives. Working closely with executive leadership, you will play a key role in supporting safe, efficient, and sustainable growth, while upholding TNDC’s commitment to safety, community, and Tahltan values.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Strategic Leadership & Governance
- Provide strategic oversight and direction for all fleet, equipment, shop, and yard operations across TNDC.
- Develop and execute a long-term asset management strategy, including lifecycle planning, capital forecasting, and replacement planning.
- Establish governance frameworks, policies, and standards to ensure consistency, accountability, and operational excellence across all sites.
- Partner with executive leadership to align asset strategies with organizational growth, operational priorities, and Indigenous economic development goals.
Operational Excellence
- Oversee the performance of fleet and asset operations, ensuring optimal utilization, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Lead the development and execution of preventive and predictive maintenance programs to maximize asset life and minimize downtime.
- Ensure yard operations are efficient, secure, and aligned with operational requirements across all regions.
- Identify capacity constraints and implement scalable solutions to support business growth and service delivery.
Financial Management & Capital Planning
- Provide oversight of divisional financial performance, including P&L accountability, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
- Develop and manage capital expenditure plans, ensuring strategic investment in equipment, infrastructure, and emerging technologies.
- Identify and drive cost optimization initiatives while maintaining operational quality and safety standards.
- Collaborate with Finance to ensure accurate asset valuation, depreciation, and reporting.
Leadership & People Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of managers and supervisors, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Build leadership capacity within the division through coaching, succession planning, and performance management.
- Promote a positive and inclusive work environment that aligns with TNDC values and supports employee engagement and retention.
Compliance, Safety & Risk Management
- Ensure full compliance with all regulatory, safety, and environmental requirements related to fleet and asset operations.
- Champion a safety-first culture, ensuring all programs, policies, and practices meet or exceed industry standards.
- Identify and mitigate operational risks, implementing proactive controls and continuous monitoring systems.
Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Leverage data analytics and performance metrics to drive informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Monitor asset performance, utilization, and maintenance trends, identifying opportunities for efficiency gains.
- Provide regular executive-level reporting on performance, risks, financials, and strategic initiatives.
- Stay informed on industry trends, innovations, and technologies, recommending improvements and modernization initiatives.
Stakeholder & Vendor Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including Operations, Finance, Procurement, and Leadership teams.
- Oversee vendor and contractor relationships, ensuring service quality, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with TNDC standards.
- Support business development initiatives by ensuring fleet and asset readiness for new and existing projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Over 10 years of experience with fleet and asset management, preferably in heavy civil construction
- Strong strategic thinking and executive-level decision-making capabilities.
- Extensive knowledge of fleet operations, asset lifecycle management, and maintenance practices.
- Deep understanding of safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and influence at all levels of the organization.
- Strong financial and business acumen with a focus on cost optimization and value creation.
- Advanced analytical skills with the ability to leverage data for strategic insights.
- Experience with asset management systems and enterprise tools.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing
Provide
guidance, training, and mentorship to team members, especially local Tahltan
workers, by sharing technical skills, safety practices, and industry knowledge
in a respectful and culturally aware manner. Uphold Tahltan values and
principles by fostering a work environment built on respect, teamwork, and
mutual learning. Support the growth of the Tahltan workforce by helping build
capacity, promoting safe and effective work practices, and ensuring that
knowledge is passed on to strengthen both the team and the broader Tahltan
community for the benefit of current and future generation.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Ability to pass a mandatory pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
- Willingness to sign an Oath of Confidentiality.
- Full disclosure of criminal record and satisfactory criminal record check.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a current driver abstract.
- Willingness to work extended hours as required.
