Job Summary

As our Dietary Cook / Dessert Aide, you’ll create a positive dining experience by preparing tasty, safe, and diet-appropriate meals and desserts. You’ll follow menus and physician-ordered diets, support meal service, and keep the kitchen clean, organized, and compliant with food-safety standards.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and portion hot/cold menu items; prepare and plate desserts per recipes and required textures (purée, mechanical soft, etc.).

  • Follow diet cards/menus and physician-ordered meal plans (diabetic, cardiac, low-sodium, etc.).

  • Set up service lines; assemble trays; verify portions/temperatures; assist with dining service.

  • Practice proper sanitation & infection control (cleaning, date-marking, temperature logs/HACCP).

  • Safely operate and care for kitchen equipment; report maintenance needs.

  • Rotate/store food and supplies; keep work areas clean, stocked, and compliant.

  • Communicate with dietary and nursing teams to meet resident needs and preferences.

  • Schedule: Full-time, 10:00 AM–6:00 PM, with occasional weekends/holidays as needed.

Wage scale determined by years of experience. Benefits & bonuses available for full-time employees working 30+ hours/week.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral/written directions.

  • Knowledge of kitchen supplies/equipment and safe use; work safely around hot surfaces, sharp tools, and wet floors.

  • Able to stand/walk for most of the shift; lift 20–25 lbs frequently and 50–60 lbs occasionally.

  • Basic knowledge of modified diets and cooking; sanitation knowledge (or willingness to learn).

  • Team player with strong customer-service skills; professional communication with residents, families, staff, visitors, and regulators.

  • Adherence to departmental dress code and HIPAA/confidentiality standards.

  • Food Handler certificate/Sanitation course may be required per Florida regulations.

  • Meet local health requirements (may include physical, drug screen, background, and references).

  • Attend required in-service/education to maintain compliance and skills.
