Department Manager - Kitchen Home and Coffee Bar [JLW]

Our Department Manager is responsible for providing outstanding customer service and cultivating community connections. The role supports overall department operations by providing employee orientation and development, scheduling coverage, managing performance, leading by example when assisting customers and finding ways to improve the service provided by JAX. The department includes housewares, gifts, toys, and a coffee bar. Visual merchandising experiencing is a must. Duties include coordinating with the buyers team to provide feedback on products, arranging product displays, managing inventory, stocking, and organizing the department. Additional tasks include:
- Creating schedules two weeks in advance
- Ensuring coverage by working with employees or stepping up fill gaps when necessary
- Leading a team in crafting coffee drinks and serving sweet treats
- Providing honest and informative answers about our products
- Addressing loss prevention concerns
- Participating in inventory responsibilities
- Assembling or moving new stock
- Maintaining a clean and well-stocked area
- Complete record-keeping and creating reports
- Completes special orders
- Coordinates with others to plan for sales and promotions
- Ensure proper documentation and pricing of products
- Works to engage and inspire teamwork with department employees
Our ideal candidate is experienced in retail management, is willing to pitch-in and help, is well-organized, takes initiative, communicates well, and has an engaging and positive approach to customer service. Knowledge, skills and abilities desired for this position include:
- Strong visual merchandising skills with the ability to independently execute compelling displays without preset planograms
- Creative eye for product presentation, with experience rotating and refreshing seasonal or featured merchandise
- Product knowledge in housewares, home decor, gifts, and toys with the ability to merchandise across categories effectively
- Previous knowledge and interest as a coffee barista helpful
- Prior top-notch customer service experience required
- Prior retail lead or supervisory experience
- ServSafe or other food safety certification or training is preferred
- Comfort and adaptability with learning new technology or computer systems
- Ability to be flexible and work retail hours (Sun-Thurs or Tues-Sat)
- Engaging and positive
- Effective trouble-shooting skills
- Ability to present and maintain a professional demeanor
Schedule Requirements:
- Must be available at least one weekend day and at least one week night
- Flexible availability required
Pay Range: $18.00 to $20.00 an hour
Positions: 1 Full-Time position
