Under supervision of clinic manager, provides preventative dental care and demonstrates good oral hygiene practices for patients.  Works closely with dentists, residents, supervisors and specialty care coordinator to provide full quality care to their patient population. 

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Provides preventive maintenance dental care.
  • Performs periodontal therapy.
  • Exposes digital radiographs and expose and develop pantographic film and bitewings when necessary.
  • Trains patient in oral hygiene care.
  • Maintains a recall system for patients.
  • Assists dentist in identifying the dental needs of patients.
  • Places sealants on teeth.
  • Maintains implants.
  • Performs oral inspections and fill out quality assessment forms to be routed to the specialty care coordinator when necessary.
  • Updates medical histories.
  • Supports other hygienists in department, when time permits by: treating patients, assisting with the set up or breakdown of operatories, retrieving or ordering instruments, supplies or charts.

Required Skills

Thorough knowledge of the principles of Hygiene theory, technique, and practice. Skill in the use of dental instruments and equipment. Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.  Ability to communicate effectively and give particular attention to patients individual needs.

Required Education

Registered Dental Hygienist with current licensure by the State of Maryland

Required Qualifications

All candidates must be RDH and, or RDH, BS and CPR Certified and remain certified with renewal every two years thereafter.
