School of Dentistry. U.M. FDSP Associates is the organization that
provides patient care focused staffing for the clinic operations so
that faculty and students may provide patient care to the general
public
This person shall, at a minimum, hold a current certification from the Maryland State Board of Dentistry to practice dental radiation technology.
Under general supervision by the Director of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology (OMFR), this person shall have primary responsibility for exposing dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) radiographic examinations; and shall also expose additional dental radiographic examinations as needed; and assist with the clinical operation of the Department of Oral Radiology, as permitted by the State of Maryland COMAR regulations.
Receive departmental requests for radiographic consultations (RADCONs) and respond appropriately. These consultations primarily consist of dental Cone Beam Computed Tomographic (CBCT) examinations.Schedule patients for the requested radiographic examinations on a timely basis; for example, dental CBCT examinations are frequently requested to be exposed the same day per the request, if needed on an urgent basis.
Properly organize and disseminate departmental CBCT volumes and radiology reports to the ordering clinician.
With the assistance of the Director of OMFR, monitor dental CBCT’s for acceptable quality assurance.
Complete appropriate educational activities related to both multi-slice computed tomography and dental CBCT.
Become competent in the operation of all the departmental radiographic machines, with an emphasis on the dental CBCT machines.
Be prepared to respond to patient questions regarding radiographic examinations, particularly regarding dental CBCT.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: The Maryland State Board of Dentistry requires Dental Radiation Technologists to be 18 years of age or older; to be of good moral character; to hold a high school degree, or equivalent; to satisfactorily complete a Board-approved training program; and, to pass the Dental Radiation Technologist examination. In addition, two years of experience as a Dental Radiation Technologist is required; related education may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
OTHER:Employees in this job class must be CPR certified within the first twelve months of employment. Employees in this job class must also meet and maintain Maryland State and National Certification requirements for dental radiography.
Overtime, weekend, on-call and shift work may be required.
