 Dental Assistant Manager will report to the Director of Clinical Operations. The manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of clinics that can include supervision of staff, appropriate assignment of clinical and administrative staff, participation in instructional presentation to staff and residents. Works collaboratively with management to coordinate the efficient and effective daily operations support. Generally, oversees clinical staff where necessary.


Daily scheduling of assistant coverage throughout the School of Dentistry.


Evaluation of dental assisting employees and maintaining and updating staff development opportunities.


Scheduling and conducting staff meetings for discussion of departmental policies and instruction in the use of new dental techniques and materials for Dental Assistants.


 Support clinical operations by supervising and closely collaborating with Dental Assistants in the general dentistry and specialty areas.


Mediate disputes involving Dental Assistants

Write and conduct annual performance reviews of supervised staff.

Monitor and oversee commendations and progressive discipline of supervised staff


Recruiting and hiring of dental assistants Monitor staff attendance (daily accounting) and work hours.

Supports the implementation of policies for patient services, inventory control, and equipment maintaince.


 Learn, utilize, and provide training and guidance to the Dental Assistants on the use of the electronic record system and related software.

 Ensures compliance with Federal, State, and University rules and regulations that can include disease prevention and infection control, HIPAA, etc.


Provide information to the Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs and other relevant parties regarding violations of clinic policies.  

Supervises Dental Assistants in the performance of duties related to general operations of the clinic.


Conducts annual performance reviews, educational plans, and corrective action/disciplinary actions as needed.


Perform other related duties as assigned. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary based upon individual clinic needs.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:Five (5) years of dental clinic team experience, 3-5 years of management experience and/or experience working in a team and customer service-oriented environment. High School Diploma. Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred. Accredited dental assisting program; CPR certificate and Radiology certification. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 

 

Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:  

Comprehensive knowledge of the theories, principles, techniques, and practices for the different specialty areas.

Skill in procedures (related to specialty) and in the use of instruments and equipment.

Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Present ideas clearly and concisely.

Ability to train, supervise and evaluate clinic personnel. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships and manage sensitive material with discretion.

Ability to follow written and oral instructions and possess strong organizational skills.

 Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively relate to peers, faculty and staff is a necessity.

Work independently and possess ability to motivate and encourage staff.


 COMPUTER SKILLS:

Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint). Ability to become familiar with the Axium Clinic Management System.



 

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employees in this job class may be required to receive immunization shots to prevent illness due to exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Overtime, weekend, on-call and shift work may be required.
