QA/QC Technician (Breathing Air)

 

At RJ MacLean Energy Services, our Air Division supports critical turnaround and project work by providing reliable breathing air systems and safety support in high-risk environments. Maintaining the integrity, cleanliness, and performance of breathing air equipment is essential to protecting workers and meeting regulatory and client requirements.

The Position:

We are seeking a QA/QC Technician (Breathing Air) to support turnaround operations by inspecting, cleaning, maintaining, and verifying breathing air equipment in the field. This role plays a key part in ensuring breathing air systems are safe, compliant, and ready for service.

Key Responsibilities

The QA/QC Technician is responsible for quality assurance and quality control activities related to breathing air systems and equipment, including:

  • Clean, inspect, and maintain breathing air equipment on site, including:
    • Breathing air hoses
    • Manifolds
    • Regulators and fittings
    • SABA/SCBA
    • AV3000 SS Masks
  • Perform cleaning and servicing in accordance with manufacturer requirements, company procedures, and applicable standards
  • Verify equipment condition, cleanliness, and serviceability prior to deployment
  • Identify damaged, contaminated, or non-conforming equipment and remove it from service
  • Complete QA/QC inspections and documentation for breathing air equipment
  • Track equipment status, inspections, and maintenance activities
  • Support breathing air setup, teardown, and troubleshooting during turnaround operations
  • Operate breathing air compressors when qualified; Jordair compressor operation is considered an asset
  • Coordinate with Air Division Supervisors to ensure equipment readiness and availability
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in work and equipment storage areas
  • Participate in safety meetings, FLHAs, and job planning activities
  • Exercise stop-work authority if unsafe or non-compliant conditions are identified
  • Support incident, near-miss, or equipment failure investigations as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of Air Division operations

Physical & Working Conditions

This role requires hands-on technical work in industrial environments, including:

  • Working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Standing, bending, kneeling, and working at ground level or elevated areas
  • Walking stairs, slopes, and uneven ground
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling equipment up to 40 lbs
  • Wearing respiratory protection and other required PPE

Required Certifications

  • Scott Level 1 Certification (required)
  • H2S Alive
  • Common Safety Orientation (CSO)
  • Standard First Aid with CPR/AED (Level A or C)
  • Fire Watch Certificate

Additional Requirements

  • Must be clean shaven when required for respiratory protection
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and pre-access drug & alcohol testing
  • Demonstrated fitness for work in a safety-sensitive role
  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards
  • Ability to accurately complete documentation and inspection records
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work closely with field supervisors and crews
  • Ability to work day and night shifts during turnaround operations
  • Willingness to travel and work in remote locations
  • Computer and internet access for reporting and training
  • Clean Class 5 Driver’s License is an asset

Experience Requirements

  • Previous experience working with breathing air equipment in industrial or oil & gas environments
  • QA/QC, maintenance, or technical equipment support experience preferred
  • Experience operating Jordair breathing air compressors is a strong asset
