Cylinder Technician

Port Coquitlam, BC Full-time $35.00-$45.00/hour

We specialize in rebuilding large hydraulic cylinders, repairing heavy industrial equipment, and building large steel fabrications.

Our team has an opening for a Cylinder Technician who will be responsible for disassembly, inspection/reporting, repairing, assembly, and testing, of all types and sizes of hydraulic cylinders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Disassembly/assembly of cylinders.
  • Take photos at different stages of the cylinder repair.
  • Take measurements using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.) and record them on the repair report. 
  • Identifying seals during cylinder disassembly. 
  • Testing hydraulic cylinders using a test bench. 
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and follow safe working procedures.
  • Other duties as necessary.


Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in a cylinder shop. 
  • Millwrights who have experience assembling heavy equipment with precision fits is considered an asset.  
  • Understands basic failure modes of cylinder seals. 
  • Basic understanding and ability to read assembly drawings.
  • Mechanical aptitude is an asset. 
  • Experience with straightening rods, polishing rods, and/or honing is considered an asset. 
  • Experience in the safe operation of common shop equipment including forklifts, overhead cranes, saws, drill presses, grinders, torches, and hydraulic presses.

  • Self-starter and problem solver. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and able to work both individually and in a team environment.
  • Dependable and consistent in punctuality, attendance, quality, and productivity.

Working Conditions:

  • General manufacturing shop specializing in cylinder rebuilds.
  • Out-of-town travel, field work, and/or overtime as required. 
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Fast-paced environment requiring high attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Standing for extended periods of time.
