The Daily Catch, established in 1973 in Boston, MA, are family-owned and operated Sicilian-style seafood and pasta restaurants. We have 3 locations in Boston and a wholesale seafood business based out of Boston's Fish Pier. We serve local New England fish species cooked with family recipes that continue to satisfy seafood lovers from around the world.

 

Job Summary

The Daily Catch Restaurant seeks an eager Culinary Student for a Summer Culinary Internship. As the Culinary Intern, you will learn every position in the kitchen and gain the hands-on skill and knowledge to grow your career in the kitchen. In this role, you will prepare and cook our signature seafood and pasta dishes from scratch and work at various cooking stations, including prep, pantry, sauté, grill, and fry. Beyond the traditional restaurant kitchen, this Internship will give you additional exposure working in a Seafood Processing Facility on The Boston Fish Pier.

 

Internship Details

This is a 8-week internship program run from the start of July to the end of August. The minimum hour commitment is 30 hours/week, up to 40 hours/week. The ideal candidate is passionate in culinary arts with previous cooking experience and a desire to learn everything about seafood!

 

Responsibilities

- Receive, cook, and plate orders quickly and accurately according to order slips

- Cook a variety of seafood dishes, following recipes to ensure consistency and quality

- Assist with opening and closing duties, including prep, stocking, and cleaning all kitchen stations

- Safely use and operate all kitchen tools and equipment, including knives, grill, fry, broiler, stoves, and oven

- Maintain equipment and kitchen areas to ensure a clean and safe working environment

- Fulfill any other tasks the Chef may request of you

- Opportunity to work in a Seafood Processing Plant on Boston’s Fish Pier including: cutting fish, making pasta and sauces, receiving and packing orders, and any other tasks assigned by the Plant Manager

 

Qualifications and Experience

- Minimum two years of Culinary School completed, ideally a Junior going into Senior year

- High school graduates who have completed a culinary program are welcome to apply!

- Minimum two years experience cooking in a kitchen, this should not be your first time working in a kitchen!

- Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and knife-handling skills

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks at once

- Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds

- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

- Previous experience cooking in an Italian and/or seafood restaurant is a bonus
