Cost Accountant/Controller
The Cost Accountant/Controller supports the financial operations of NHI Commercial by managing day-to-day accounting tasks, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring efficient handling of accounts payable, receivables, payroll, and inventory. This role plays a key part in keeping projects financially organized, supporting job cost tracking, and maintaining compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the company’s accounting operations and financial health, including financial reporting, budgeting and risk management
- Record daily financial transactions and maintain accurate ledgers
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoice entry, payment posting and reconciliations
- Reconcile bank and credit card statements monthly
- Oversee inventory control, including monitoring material usage, tracking stock levels and reconciling physical counts
- Prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger accuracy
- Track and reconcile job costs, materials and project related expenses
- Support audits and other financial projects as needed
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred
- 4+ years of cost accounting/controller experience, preferably in the construction industry
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks)
- Excellent written, verbal, and telephonic communication
- Familiarity with job cost accounting and project billing methods
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information
Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience
Work Arrangement: This role is fully on-site at our Lansing office. Remote work is not permitted due to the hands-on nature of the position and the need for close coordination with project and accounting teams.
