Director of Finance

Dawson Group is looking for a Director of Finance, who will play a key role within the Dawson Group's strategic team through providing sound business analytics supporting all aspects of equipment purchasing/selling/leasing/insurance in the most economic, and efficient way possible.  

In this role you will be a valued member of the Dawson Group, working in a permanent, full-time position of Director of Finance, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and providing key information to the Executive Team. Your base location will be Kamloops, BC and may require some travel throughout our great province.


WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
  • Oversee accounting for all entities, such that it is timely and efficient with a focus on continuous improvement and excellent customer service (internal/external).
  • Prepare consolidated monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting and analysis
  • Prepare annual budgets and regular forecasts and consolidated results, including budget and forecast efforts, and monitor actual results against these budgets/forecasts.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation, support, working papers and reconciliations are maintained.
  • Ensure that Company policies and procedures are adhered to on a timely basis.
  • Preparation and control of indirect tax requirements such as sales tax, GST, and withholding taxes.
  • Preparation of monthly pension accounting and related reconciliations.
  • Government reporting as required (i.e. Statistics Canada, CRA, etc.).
  • Provide coverage for the Division Controllers and other team members in their absence.
  • Manage General Accounting services, including: tax compliance and accounting, consolidations, JV/investment accounting, overhead allocations, intercompany reconciliations and treasury.
  • Managing cash management processes, cash forecasting, credit agreements in conjunction with financing arrangements and bank relationships, in concert with the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Work with external resources to ensure comprehensive tax planning and optimization.
  • Manage and control the month-end close process and timeliness for all companies.
  • Coordinate and manage, interim and annual assurance requirements with external auditors.
  • Manage and coordinate regulatory reporting including tax advisory, planning and compliance.
  • Assist the Chief Financial Officer with coordinating the financial budgeting and forecasting process.
  • Responsible for information analysis to internal and external customers.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing, and documenting financial policies, procedures and controls for all accounting and finance functions.
  • Coordinate the building of a shared services model within the organization including hiring, training and retaining skilled accounting staff
  • Act as the main contact and triage point for enquiries/direction from Senior Management and Corporate Executive.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in finance or business administration
  • CPA Designation
  • Seven to ten (7-10) years of related financial reporting and/or public accounting experience (including solid experience with accounting, tax, and audit), ideally in a group reporting environment.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team in a high growth company.
  • Knowledge of and exposure to construction or engineering industry is an asset.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including, but not limited to, Pivot Tables and V-Lookup.
  • Detail oriented, results driven approach valuing continuous improvement and a strong analytical skillset 
  • Ability to think innovatively and articulate new ideas
  • Experience in mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence
