Hours per week: 20 Part Time

Job Summary:   

The Cook I is responsible for ensuring a safe, sanitary environment in the facility kitchen.  Ensures menus are posted and the food is prepared in time for the service of residents. Food must be served in compliance with the Statement of Work. 

Education and Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED required.  One year of experience working in a kitchen serving 25 people or more required.  Food handlers license is required.  Experience may be waived with approval from COO/CFO/Executive Director or Human Resources.  Must have good communication skills and be able to articulate professionally, verbally and in writing.  Must complete annual training required by the contract.  Available to work any shift any time any schedule.  Must have a valid driver’s license and social security card issued by the U.S. Social Security Administration, and be a United States citizen, permanent resident, or another person lawfully admitted into the United States.  Must pass a federal background check and physical examination.

  • Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Manual skills for the preparation of food
  • Operate a motor vehicle
  • Knowledge of safe and sanitary operation of kitchen equipment

Job Responsibilities:

The Cook I shall assume the following job responsibilities:

  • Maintain the kitchen in a manner expected by the Bureau of Prisons.
  • Must be able to lift at least 20 lbs.
  • Mopping the dining room and kitchen
  • Cleaning walls as needed
  • Ensuring that dining room and tables & chairs are clean
  • Log any variance between established menus and actual meals.
  • Place and receive orders and organize when needed
  • Ensure that food is properly stored daily.
  • Verify the refrigerator temperature is in compliance with regulations.
  • Prepare and cook each meal in an attractive and professional manner, providing a balanced meal for each resident.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local health and sanitation codes.
  • Local travel may be required.
  • Complete all annual training required by the contract.
  • Complies with federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Reports any violation of company policy, employee handbook Standards of Conduct, etc.
  • Assume and perform other duties as assigned.
