SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:


Cooks are responsible for preparing and plating food items according to Bloom Coffee’s standards. They work to maintain a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment while collaborating with the Head Chef, Back of House Shift Leads, and other staff.


COMPENSATION: Minimum wage plus tips.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


Prepare, cook, and plate menu items according to established recipes and standards.

Follow food safety protocols, including proper storage, labeling, and FIFO practices.

Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, tools, and work areas.

Assist with restocking and prepping ingredients as directed by the Head Chef or BoH Shift Lead.

Report equipment malfunctions, shortages, or safety concerns to the BoH Shift Lead.

Take scheduled breaks in accordance with CA labor law and as directed by the Shift Lead.

Consistently produce high-quality food in a timely manner.

Follow Bloom’s kitchen policies, recipes, and safety protocols.

Work collaboratively with teammates to support efficient service.

Maintain professionalism and teamwork, even in high-pressure situations.

Arrive on time, in uniform, and ready to work.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


High school diploma or equivalent (often preferred but not always required)

Culinary school training or certificate (optional but valued)

Food Handler’s Certificate or ServSafe certification

Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations

Strong communication and teamwork

Reliability and punctuality

Attention to detail

Ability to work under pressure during high-volume times

Cross training as a barista


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


Prior experience as a cook, line cook, prep cook, or similar role

Experience in a commercial kitchen, restaurant, cafeteria, or hospitality environment

Ability to use industrial kitchen equipment

Ability to prepare, cook, and present food consistently

Knife skills and knowledge of various cooking techniques

Understanding of recipe execution and portion control

Ability to follow menus and special dietary requirements


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. 


The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to lift products and supplies, up to 40 pounds. 


This position does require the ability to perform under stressful conditions and high-volume demands.
