Controller
Job Summary:
The Controller will plan and direct the accounting operations of the company.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
· Oversees the operations of the Accounting Department, which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll.
· Oversees training programs and identifies training needs.
Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Financial Reporting:
· Prepare and present accurate financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
· Analyze financial data to identify trends and make recommendations for improvements.
2. Budgeting and Forecasting:
· Develop annual budgets and forecasts in collaboration with the restaurant management team.
· Monitor and control budget expenditures, ensuring adherence to financial goals.
3. Cost Control:
· Oversee inventory and cost management, including food, beverages, and labor costs.
· Implement and maintain effective cost-control procedures to minimize waste and maximize profitability.
· Conduct regular audits of inventory, labor costs, and vendor payments.
4. Cash Flow Management:
· Monitor cash flow and ensure the restaurant maintains adequate liquidity.
· Ensure timely payment of bills and manage vendor relationships to maintain good credit terms.
5. Payroll and Benefits Administration:
· Oversee payroll processing, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.
· Manage employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
6. Compliance and Internal Controls:
· Ensure the restaurant complies with all financial regulations, including tax reporting and payment.
· Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent fraud or financial mismanagement.
7. Vendor and Supplier Relations:
· Negotiate with vendors for cost-effective purchasing agreements.
· Ensure timely payment of suppliers and manage relationships to secure favorable terms.
8. Financial Analysis:
· Analyze financial statements to identify opportunities for increased efficiency and profitability.
· Provide financial insights and recommendations to the management team for strategic decision-making.
9. Team Leadership:
· Lead and supervise accounting staff, if applicable.
· Ensure that the team maintains accurate records and adheres to accounting principles and standards.
10. Technology and Systems:
· Manage financial software systems (e.g., accounting software, POS systems) and ensure they are up to date.
· Implement new technologies
Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required).
· 3+ years of experience in accounting or financial management, preferably in the hospitality or restaurant industry.
· Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
· Strong knowledge of financial regulations and accounting standards.
· Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with management and vendors.
