These values and practices foster respect, honesty, generosity, strong cultural identification and hope for positive life changes.  The Healing Lodge treatment program integrates traditional, spiritual and cultural values with chemical dependency and mental health counseling to create a holistic approach toward healing.  Residents include both Native American and non-Native from all areas of the country.

About the Position

The Contract Nurse will administer scheduled morning and evening medications to the inpatient residents. The contract nurse will provide nursing assessments and triage to appropriate level of care to meet medical needs.  This position maintains medical records and other mandated documentation in accordance with state regulations for a residential treatment facility.

This schedule is: 2 weekends a month- Friday, Saturday, Sunday, (AM and PM med pass) and minimum of 5 mid-week evening med passes per month. On the weekend shifts that consists of both AM and PM med pass for the day. Evening med pass RN will come in at 8 PM for evening med pass. 

This nurse will work closely with RN/Clinic Manager, medical provider and inpatient RN with coordination of inpatient care management for the patients enrolled in HL7N program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities when working Inpatient shift include the following.

1. Administers scheduled medications to inpatient residents. 

2. Supervises medication self-administration (when applicable) and checks in with the residents.

3. Performs daily assessments of medical complaints, including making appropriate referrals with communication to RN/Clinic Manager and Medical Provider.

4. Perform delegated independent nursing functions using established policies, procedures, guidelines and standards as observed by RN/Clinic Manager or Medical Provider.

5. Provides nursing recommendations for resident discharge planning as indicated. 

6. Educates residents and staff regarding medications, treatment plan, and diagnostic tests.

7. Performs basic first aid procedures as needed.

8. Triages, and schedules patients to be seen at clinic as needed. 

9. Performs first aid procedures including dressings, medications, and suture removal.  

10. Receives and transcribes new orders and updates medication administration records daily.

11. Obtains medications from pharmacy as necessary.

12. Routinely checks for expired medications and reorders if necessary.

13. Maintains medical records for review by Medical Director and State inspectors.

14. Collects and prepares laboratory specimens for courier pick up, and performs in house diagnostic tests as needed if they cannot be performed at the clinic (i.e. pregnancy test, drug screen, glucose monitoring).

15. Routinely conducts inventory audits of medical supplies and medical instruments and equipment and re-order or replace as needed.  

16. Routinely check refrigerator log and calibration. 

17. Dispose of biohazard waste according to OSHA/WISHA standards and HL7N policy. 

18. Assist in ensuring medical department meets all licensing, contractual, and quality assurance standards/requirements.

19. Participates in overall facility and program quality improvement process and ensuring compliance within the program.

Education and/or Experience:

Current State of Washington Nursing license either RN or LPN with three years of experience

Ability to function within the framework of a multi-disciplinary team approach to treatment

Ability to handle stressful situations

Experience working with Native American adolescents preferred

Training and work experience in an adolescent residential treatment environment preferred 

Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:

Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Washington State Driver’s License

AHA BLS/CPR

Computer Skills: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have basic knowledge in MS Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, & PowerPoint.
