About the Position: The Party Chief at R&R Surveying is responsible for field supervision and management of construction staking projects. This role ensures the successful execution of field work, client satisfaction, adherence to project schedules, budgets, and quality standards. The Party Chief manages project resources, leads the field crew, and acts as the primary field contact for both the office and the client. Reporting directly to the Chief of Parties, the Party Chief communicates project status and any unforeseen issues while proactively identifying and mitigating risks. Additionally, this role is responsible for training and mentoring Instrument Operators to foster their professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise field operations for construction staking projects from start to finish.
  • Coordinate and manage field crew activities to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Monitor project progress, address issues, and communicate concerns or potential delays to the Chief of Parties or Project Manager in a timely manner.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate, and organized field books and documentation for all assigned projects.
  • Transfer field data to office staff clearly, completely, and efficiently.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships to ensure satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Identify project risks and recommend effective solutions to mitigate them.
  • Prepare and submit project field status reports, summarizing information and suggesting necessary actions.
  • Train, mentor, and support Instrument Operators, promoting team development and high performance.
  • Effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects in a dynamic work environment.
  • Adapt to shifting priorities and new challenges as business evolves.

Qualifications:

  • LSI, PLS, or a minimum of 4 years of relevant field experience.
  • Strong mathematics skills and understanding of survey principles.
  • Proficient with field surveying technology, including Trimble Business Center and AutoCAD (Civil 3D or Land Development Desktop).
  • Proven ability to manage and deliver multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to safety and maintaining a clean driving record.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and mentor field staff.
  • Willingness to embrace change and accept new challenges in a fast-paced business landscape.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed primarily outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.).
  • Projects may require travel within the greater Denver area or nearby regions.
  • The position may involve early morning, late evening, or occasional weekend work depending on project schedules.
  • Work environment may include uneven terrain, active construction sites, and remote locations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, crouching, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift and carry surveying equipment and materials (up to 50 pounds).
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate instruments and perform precise measurements.
  • Capability to drive and operate a company vehicle as needed.

The Position: The Party Chief position is a full time, hourly, non-exempt position working in the field with a varying schedule, mostly Monday – Friday.

The hourly range for this role is: $28-$38/hr.
