Reporting to the electrical coordinator, the electrical designer will be responsible for developing the electrical and instrumentation control plans required for various site projects. He or she will also be involved in project development.  Based at the Windfall site in northern Quebec, the Electrical Designer will work remotely with occasional visits to the site or on a 15-day work schedule followed by 13 days off. Transportation, accommodation and meals are provided. 


Duties and responsibilities     

                    

•    Assist the engineer and/or senior technician in the design, drafting and technical implementation of the electrical, instrumentation and automation aspects of projects;

•    Comply with applicable procedures, codes and standards;

•    Prepare single-line diagrams, layout drawings, BOMs, loop drawings, network diagrams, and process and instrumentation diagrams;

•    Perform electrical analyses and evaluations;

•    Take the necessary field measurements to prepare the required deliverables;

•    Ensure that deadlines are met and that deliverables are of high quality;

•    Follow up on completed projects and operations;

•    Update drawings and documentation;

•    Work in collaboration with other disciplines;

•    Work in collaboration with the planning department to deliver the deliverables necessary for the smooth running of operations;

•    Comply with health, safety and environmental policies and rules at all times;

•    Perform any other tasks related to the position of electrical designer that are relevant to the success of the project.  


Required qualifications


•    Bachelor's degree or college diploma in electrical engineering or several years of relevant experience in electrical design or automation;

•    Functional spoken English and ability to read and understand documents in English;

•    Mining modules 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7;

•    Problem-solving and diagnostic skills;

•    Willingness to learn and excel;

•    Ability to work in a team through collaboration, information sharing and effective communication;

•    Good organisational, planning and priority management skills;

•    Good written and verbal communication skills;

Technical skills


•    Knowledge of:

•    ABB ACS880 variable speed drive;

•    EATON C445 and Schneider TeSysT smart starters;

•    Basic networking;

•    Honeywell Experion DCS; 

•    Proficiency in AutoCAD;

•    Electrical simulation in ETAP;

•    Deswik (an asset);

•    Proficiency in the Quebec Construction Code, Chapter V – Electricity (C22.10-18);

•    Proficiency in CSA M421:23 (an asset);
