About the Company

Main Street Project (MSP) is a community health Centre with a mandate to address the social determinants of health which give rise to issues of addiction, physical and mental health issues and homelessness. MSP uses housing-first and harm reduction principles in the provision of a safe, respectful and accessible place for individuals who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness in the community. Since 1972, MSP has been providing a range of services to Winnipeg's most marginalized residents, including emergency shelter and nutrition services, drug and alcohol withdrawal management services, health advocacy and support, case management services, housing support services, food bank services and a mobile community outreach program.

MSP hosts the Main Street Area Action Plan (MSAAP), a coalition of community-based organizations, non-profit, community advocates, and governmental partners working to build spaces for community where all people feel safe and connected to one another and the neighbourhood. The plan aims to enliven Winnipeg's Main Street area with a sense of love and hope, through access to housing, health services, recreation, cultural connections, and natural and built beauty.

The two community engagement coordinators will work for the MSAAP under the direction of the MSAAP Convenor.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the MSAAP Convenor, the Community Engagement Coordinators are responsible for developing and supporting initiatives that strengthen relationships between MSAAP and the communities we serve. This includes organizing outreach activities, building partnerships, supporting community-centered programming, and promoting engagement in organizational initiatives such as community events, community clean ups, advocacy, and awareness campaigns.

As a member of the MSAAP team, the Community Engagement Coordinators plays a vital role in advancing MSP’s mission by fostering trust, inclusion, and connection with community members, partners, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be a planner and relationship-builder who thrives on collaboration, is highly organized, and has a deep understanding of community dynamics, particularly within diverse and underserved populations


Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver monthly community clean ups
  • Act as a liaison between MSP and MSAAP, ensuring respectful, responsive, and inclusive communication.
  • Organize and support community events, outreach activities, volunteer initiatives, and public engagement.
  • Participate or lead community-oriented committees to implement a variety of community events, from small-scale to larger-scale. 
  • Promote awareness of MSAAP’s programs and services through presentations, community visits, and collaborative initiatives.
  • Work with the communications team to develop culturally appropriate messaging and materials that reflect community voices.
  • Maintain partnerships with community organizations, service providers, Indigenous communities, and local leaders.
  • Assist in the planning and promotion of events that support public awareness.
  • Coordinate community consultation sessions and facilitate opportunities for feedback and participation in neighbourhood activities.
  • Support staff in incorporating community input into programming and strategic planning.
  • Collaborate with neighbourhood organizations to support staff involvement in community-focused initiatives and internal/external engagement.
  • Represent MSP at community events, meetings, and forums.
  • Maintain effective tracking of engagement metrics and outreach outcomes.
Skills and Specifications
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build authentic and respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute community events and initiatives.
  • Proven organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines
  • Comfort and experience working collaboratively with internal teams, community partners, donors, and volunteers.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of community engagement strategies, participatory approaches, and relationship-centered work.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to attend community events and meetings.
  •  Creative, resourceful, and self-motivated.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in community development, social work, Indigenous studies, communications, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2–3 years of experience in a community engagement or outreach role, preferably in a non-profit or community-based organization.
  • Knowledge of the social determinants of health, poverty, and systemic barriers impacting marginalized communities.
  • Strong cultural competency, with knowledge of Indigenous culture and history considered essential.
  • Understanding of harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and anti-oppressive frameworks.
  • Familiarity with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action, MMIWG Calls for Justice, and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record with clear Vulnerable Sector Search, and a clear Adult Abuse Registry Check required.
