Communications, Media, and Development Specialist
Reports To: Administration assigned by the Executive Director
Summary:
The Communications, Media, and Development (CMD) Specialist advances the mission of the Intensive Education Academy (IEA) by managing communications, marketing, and development initiatives. This role enhances IEA’s image, supports fundraising efforts, and engages key stakeholders, while upholding high professional standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Communications & Media: Develop and execute an annual communication plan; manage social media, website content, newsletters, and press releases; ensure brand consistency.
- Marketing & Design: Create promotional materials, invitations, and event graphics; design and publish the annual report and Horizon Magazine.
- Event Support: Plan and promote events, including fundraisers, community activities, and alumni engagement.
- Storytelling & Branding: Highlight IEA’s programs, achievements, and identity through storytelling and media relations.
- Technology & Media Management: Use Adobe Suite for media editing; oversee mass communications and ADA-compliant digital content.
- Development Support: Assist with donor relations, Giving Tuesday campaigns, PTO meetings, and engagement activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of experience in communications/marketing (preferably in education).
- Strong written and oral communication skills, organizational ability, and proficiency in design and social media tools.
- Collaborative and adaptable, with the ability to work evenings/weekends as needed.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in public relations, event planning, and graphic design.
- Knowledge of strategic planning and data analysis to support development goals.
- Familiarity with emerging technologies and media platforms.
Terms of Employment: Evaluated annually and subject to IEA policies.

- Ability to effectively perform a wide range of duties including records management, Gala IT needs and data collections, preparation of reports and documentation within the school environment and events.

General Duties:
- Develops and implements a communication and public relations plan which will include presenting a monthly updated timeline including tasks like Horizon Magazine, Engagement Activities, Development events or tasks, press releases, website updates and other areas identified. This plan should align to the strategic plan and include a marketing focus as well. The Annual Communication and Public Relations Plan will be presented to the Executive Director by August 31st.
- Communications- Coordinating all communication efforts school wide, collaborating on project/task management, production and public relations; serves as the IEA editor for major communications and publications (including the website and magazine), and ensures brand consistency.
- Graphic Design responsibilities for invitations, flyers, save the date, and other Graphic Design assigned needs.
- Social Media- Develop, design, and plan social media strategies and content for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Vimeo, and Twitter. All passwords should be given to IT coordinator.
- Serving as the media liaison. Establishes and maintains good working relationships with local print and broadcast media to ensure that IEA’s story is communicated accurately, effectively and broadly, issuing press releases and extending invitations as appropriate.
Evaluation: Performance evaluated by the administration
Terms of Employment: As negotiated with the Executive Director and the Employee Handbook expectations.
This is an interim position for the 2024-25 school year. The salary for this role will be prorated based on an annual amount mutually agreed upon by the IEA and the employee.
The position will undergo a formal review in June 2025 to determine its continuation as a permanent role. At that time, the position may possibly transition into either a full-time or part-time role, depending on the needs of the department.
